I must say listening on the radio they made it sound like Gomes was having a mare!!
"his kicking is very bad, it must be down to the injury" and then the other guy said "but his throwing is just as bad so it can't be his injury" but on watching the highlights I thought he looked good and them saves he made were top class and not many keepers would have saved them IMO

Gomes is three times the keeper Carlo is, easily. I cringe when I see Cudicini start in goal with Gomes on the bench. It's just not right.

Because almost all of the media still maintain he's a clown. Forgetting that since Fulham away he's been up there with Cech and VDS, and conceded less goals at home than any other team.

The BBC London pundits always have a go at him, typically small minded English "once a wrong un, always a wrong un" mentality.

Yes, that is what I was hearing also, that is why I was surprised by the talk of how good he was - BUT, like I said, if the lads at the match said he was really good last night, that is welcome news, especially given the chances he is going to get to look good with our defensive problems!

Maybe take some time and watch Gomes play without believing all the media hype that he's rubbish. He's a top, top keeper.

Also the fact that his kicking is pretty bad is a good thing in my opinion. When Gomes is in goal he usually passes out from goal kicks to the full backs, and very rarely take a long hopeful punt upfield. It helps the way we play, and allows us to build well from the back. I hate how Cudicini, like Robinson before him only has one thought on his mind, to kick the ball as hard as he can as far away from the goal as possible, yet more than likely to the opposition.

What radio station were you listening to? Just interested as on Five Live they were saying he made some great saves and were comparing him to Grobelaar (sp) when he was good.

TBH, I could care less about his kicking, like CoyBoy says, that encourages us to get the ball out quick and play it on the ground instead of hoofing it up to Crouch or someone.

I was there last night and can confirm he was top draw, like usual, for us last nite. His kicking was poor but to be fair it was his fisr competative game back for us. I have no doubt in my mind that with match fitness his kicking will improve ten fold. We have a potential world class goalie in our hands here, lets back him rather than nit pick eh......

The fact that he's not afraid to come off his line and collect balls to take pressure off his defence should be commended, or would we rather have a flat footed GK who stays on his line all the time?
Gomes shot stopping reminds me of Schmikes in his prime, yes he is that good in my eyes!

Heurelho Gomes, you are the love of my life.
Heurelho Gomes, I'll let you shag my wife.
Heurelho Gomes, I wish I was Brazilian too....

You will not find a better keeper in the Premier League, for my money.

The guy is just plain and simply World class.

I don't think he's better than VDS, Reina or Cech for sure

On the same note, I don't think any of those 3 (good choices, by the way) are better than Gomes.

All 4 have their special qualities, and all 4 are World class.

I'm with Chris on this one.

Cech used to be unbelievable before his head injury, I was beginning to wonder if he was not human or something. I'm glad and sad that VDS is thinking of retiring earlier than the end of the season, Foster ain't a patch on him.

As for Gomes the guy is a prize battler, last night was no way an easy comeback for him, from what I heard on the radio and saw on highlights he looked sharp and on form.
Now if he could perfect his penalty saving antics like he did when playing for PSV, that would elevate him higher and keep the critics quiet.

From the highlights that I saw he did make some decent saves, but some of his kick clearances were pretty bad. Not sure if thats because he's bad at kicking or possibly still slightly injured...

Gomes is our Number 1 keeper without a doubt.

If Cudicini starts on Saturday along with Keane on the left it will be another massive error by Twicher.
