Topic: Gomes
Posted: Today at 1:40pm Went to Brazil to try and get himself a good deal, The major issue being his wages.

Has come home empty handed, but now looks very close to joining a club in the UK. Deal is done in principle and has let most of his team mates at spurs know. Will be a huge lift off the wage bill.

Harsh.

We have moved on but I will always remember and appreciate his saves notably against Arsenal and Chelsea in our champions league qualifying season. That is how thin the margins were between qualifying and not. And Gomes got us into the Champions League

When confident, I think he'll save teams more points than he costs them.

He is one of those nearly keepers, great shop stopper and if he could have cut the silly mistakes out would have been great.

He was brilliant that Spring, nothing went past him. Too bad he couldn't perform at that level consistantly.

Complex character to say the least, if he could cut out the pretend injuries he is a top keeper, whose mistakes are far outweighed by his proactive keeping.

Hope he does well where ever he goes (just not against us...)

Which Prem team (assuming prem, if it's going to be a 'massive lift of our wage bill') needs a first choice keeper?

If he goes I thank him for all he did for this club. A good but definitely not very good keeper. I think it's notable that he didn't start training for that position until he was about 17/18 (before that he was a striker  ) and it showed at times he didn't look comfortable commanding his area and when you compare him to Lloris a proper keeper who has a bit of everything it really shows how much Gomes was lacking.

I think we can rule out QPR

My moneys on West Ham, they like chucking money at our failed foreigners!

I feel sorry for Gomes. He's had his downs, but he was brilliant (and crucial) the first season we finished 4th.

Man City signed him for £950k in FM2013. Inside info that is.

I feel very sorry for H-Lo. He's a phenomenal keeper in many respects, but was the victim of Alan "Not a Fucking Clue" Hansen and other MOTD "experts" (like fuck they are) deciding to call him a "clown" every other week. Even the top keepers make stupid mistakes sometimes, but every time it was Gomes MOTD would replay it ad infinitum whilst Hansen chuckled patronisingly over the top of it. He was assassinated in the media, Harry did fuck all to defend him, and his confidence was destroyed by it all. A keeper with no confidence is by definition a crap keeper, so his form then dipped to meet the media angle. He should have been set up with some intensive pschological as well as tactical/technical training, but instead he was unceremoniously abandoned. It was a shocking way to treat a lovely bloke and a very talented goalkeeper. I hope he has a late career revival wherever he goes and makes Hansen and his chums eat their words.

Purely summising, but with Schwarzer in his early forties, Fulham could be the club in question.

Funny you should say that, I don't often hear them say that about De Gea (perhaps the Utd effect). That guy's positioning and command of his area is woeful. His punches are weak also. The only thing he has on his side is that he's young enough to improve on his game, but he'll have to improve a lot.

Gomes is a quality reaction saver, but he's never been able to deal with balls being pumped into the box.

It's probably because De Gea's errors are more subtle compared to Gomes' where he literally dropped the ball in the net on a few occasions.

It's the basic fundamentals of goalkeeping that seem to hold Gomes back. He could have been one of the best. Shame.

Are you serious? De Gea gets it all the time, from all angles. No way has he had an easy ride
