It was so good to see that Bafetimbi Gomis was selected in the squad for the European Cup.

This is a player I have written about quite a lot here at this forum, and he is really a talented player.

For full information about the player I am talking about, click on http://www.euro2008.uefa.com/tournament/players/player=99690/index.html

This is a player who have been in the SM database a long time, and it is good to see that he is included among the big players.

What do you think his chances of getting a run are? Looks like he had a good season, did Matuidi get included as well?--got some class that one...

I agree it is good he is in the squad. Trez was left out because his star sign was unlucky or some such excuse, after he had a good season, but I like the fact France have freshened things up.

Gomis, Benzema, Toulalan, Diarra (Lasana), Nasri are all exciting prospects.

Again welcome back SK, you have been sorely missed!

I agree, France is going to be pretty interesting to watch this time--they seem to have an abundance of young talent, many of whom are ready (or nearly ready) to make their mark on the international level.

From what I've seen of him his game is well suited to the Premier League. He's very powerful, fast and loves to get in behind defenders and probably scores a higher percentage of his goals from break away situations than any other striker in Europe. I'm suprised we have been linked with him and if Berba goes, I'd expect him to be a target for us. However, I think his game is too similar to Bent's and we might be netter served buying someone who can hold the ball up and lets others play off him. Our build up play had been pretty slow this season and these type of players (Bent and Gomis) need to be released early. But hopefully Modric and one or two others can change that.

What do you think of Wendel and Cabaye a LW and CM options for us? I like them both.

He was fucking shit. Kept giving the ball away, bumping into people. Total wank. Worse than England picking Walcott.

Gomis was utterly horrible. You can forgive a sub for not being up to speed right away, but he looked like he'd never touched a football in his life before. Still, only one way to go from here...

To be fair, he probably had a bit of the nerves--this being his first Euro and an attacking sub...don't you think?

Also, as i said before the game, he's a striker that likes to play on the break and is at his best running in behind the defene. Romania were sitting really deep and defending solidly all game. He was a really poor choice of sub. How can you get in behind a defence playing as deeply as Romania?

Call it nerves or what have you - and no doubt he's effective in his limited role - but he didn't even exhibit power or speed today. The Romanians managed to muscle him off the ball and beat him in a footrace or two.

He looked very awkward with the ball at his feet, to boot. Adebayor on steroids comes to mind (not necessarily a bad thing, obviously).

I'm not writing him off by any means, just giving a frank account of what was on display. The whole affair was a shambles though, to be fair. Back to the drawing b...i mean horoscope for Domenech.
