This is a problem with the pl. Very rarely do you see a manager coming up from the lower leagues unless its because of promotion. It's just a big old merry go round with the same faces rotating jobs- Martin o'neill, mark Hughes, Steve Bruce, etc etc.
Exactly. Naturally were the financial rewards and risks not so great it would be more prevelant but still nice to see occasionally.

I suppose fans are partly to blame as well- bet when moyes, wenger etc were appointed there were plenty of fans giving out about their lack of top flight experience

Yep. funnily enough, BMJ wasn't viewed in the same way. Circumstances played a part of course but he wasn't greeted, from memory, with gritted teeth and hand-wringing. All because he came from a team (absolutely teeny weeny, even by Dutch standards, team though) in the top flight in Dutchland. Had he come from say, Millwall instead, I think we'd have all been shitting it a bit more. So yeah, fans play a part in this too.

Like they did when they hired Moyes.

I like Moyes, but he's is not the second coming, although fair play for Everton, he was close. I would not want to be Bill Kenwright not only do I not like musical theatre he's got a almost impossible picking his next manager.

I think Poyet has demostrated plenty of qualities as a manager, almost pulling off a playoff place this year was ridiculous. They play good football too. I do think he's getting above his station though.

All these managers can do it in the championship but when you're in the PL you need that something extra to survive. A lot of luck and a staunch chairman. Unfortunately both of those are few and far between.

And that's what I think Poyet's downfall will be. Poyet will be expected to do more than just survive. Staying up in the PL is fairly hard for a manager with little top flight coaching experience, keeping Everton competitive will be extremely hard. When Moyes took over Everton they were seven points above the relegation zone and finished below Charlton. Poyet's taking over a 6th placed team that until about a month or two ago was in the hunt for a CL place. It could come down to how patient are the Everton fans if Poyet doesn't hit the ground running.

I think people do look too closely at CVs when picking new managers. Always concentrating on managers with Premiership experience or trophies.

Football in very unbalanced these days. The only managers winning multiple trophies are those managing clubs with big budgets. This leads to the same old failures getting the vacant Premiership jobs. Chelsea have hired a range of managers with impressive CVs but it was RDM and Grant who did the best for them in Europe.

Teams need to looks to their needs more. Everyone seems to want Redknapp and O'Neill but they achieve what they do through excessive spending then leave when the chairman finally has to say they have no more money.

Everton are not a wealthy club but are well-run. A manager without a massive reputation shouldn't be excluded. Poyet can work on a relative budget and has shown some good strengths as a manager. Certainly a better option for Everton than O'Neill.

Boss Gus Poyet was suspended by the Seagulls after sending this rant to all staff following his team’s 2-0 Championship play-off second leg loss to Crystal Palace on Monday.

The Uruguayan found himself in the middle of a ‘Poodunnit?’ controversy as he tried to flush out the Seagull who pooped on the floor of the Eagles’ dressing room before kick-off.

He also blasted the club’s decision to distribute paper ‘clappers’ to home fans.
Poyet was suspended by Albion on Thursday night, along with his assistant Mauricio Taricco and first-team coach Charlie Oatway.

There is no suggestion any of the trio is responsible for the dressing-room incident.
Or that it is the reason for them being barred from Amex pending an investigation.

But Albion execs — who have threatened to call in the cops if the culprit does not hand himself in — are said to be furious with the email.

Poyet told all staff: “When Crystal Palace players and staff arrived to the Amex and went into their dressing room, they found themselves in a very uncomfortable situation.

“For some reason, someone had access to the away dressing room and done something terrible, trying to upset everyone related to Palace. To say it in clear English, someone had a ‘poo’ all outside the toilets, over and around the toilets.

“I am angry that someone within this club could endanger our good reputation and stoop so low. I would like someone to accept responsibility and resign.”

Poyet was also furious with the club for handing 28,000 paper clappers to home fans.

He wrote: “I would also like to take this opportunity to ask everyone to make sure that if you want to do something that can affect the game that perhaps you could do me the courtesy of seeking my approval first.”

Poyet added: “Would someone like to admit it was their idea to hand out stupid pieces of noise-making paper?
“I am not for one minute blaming the result on this, but it added only negative vibes to the proceedings.
“Whoever you are, you let the club down very badly.”

Poyet has been boss of Brighton since 2009 and won promotion from League One in 2011.
He guided them to a fourth-place finish in this season’s Championship before they lost to the Eagles.
His shock suspension has fuelled speculation that he is being lined up for a job elsewhere. He has been linked with the Everton vacancy.

Brighton last night refused to comment on Poyet’s email.
But SunSport understands the club’s Marketing department — who placed the clappers on 28,000 seats — are upset with the manager.

One member of staff said: “It was his tactics that lost the match and yet we feel we are being blamed for it. It stinks.”

I have to admit I've never liked Poyet. I didn't like him when he was working alongside Ramos, and I certainly didn't like him when he blamed the Spurs players for being "too stupid" to understand Ramos' tactics, and blaming the players for him and Ramos getting the sack.

Since when did not being able to understand Spanish equate to being stupid?

Everton would be barking mad to sign him. There a far better candidates around.

They need to look for someone with premiership experience.

Do you mean like when they appointed David Moyes from Championship Club Preston North End?
