As a measure of how far we have come isn't it nice that we are now in a position to openly laugh at Man Utd tapping up our best players rather than reaching for the vodka and razor blades? :smug:

It's OK we can now do that over kids that have never kicked a premier league Football, and foreign players we have only seen play a couple of times.

Think you are missing the mark a little bit. Nobody is saying "Oh no, Sessegnon isn't coming, my life is over". It's more "Oh no, what does it mean for what types of players we actually can get when even remarkably realistic targets are likely picking Arsenal". No, you are right. No need to worry. There is always the fascinating panic buy to look forward to, who will cost loads both in fees and wages.

I am not missing anything. Sessegnon either way was not being bought to fill a role for this season, he is potential that MIGHT turn into a very good prem player. I posted back in January we liked him but were happy to leave him at Fulhan, because hes not ready for whete we are yet. As i say potential, that is why we are interested, and that is why others are too. Not getting him(should that be the case) will have zero effect on anything else we do this window, absolutely zero. We are certainly not going to " panic buy" anyone because we don't get a youngster who was hardly going to play.

If Kane continues to finish top scorer in the Premiership it wouldn't be surprising if he is going to ask for a new contract for wages on par with the highest earners in the Premiership and with our current wage structure/Levy history on wages will Spurs be in a position to offer him £200K a week plus or at this point would they sell him if he becomes unhappy Spurs can't offer him the wages he can get elsewhere?

What are people's thoughts?

IMO the money will be found somehow to keep him at Spurs unless he felt we were no longer competitive in the PL.

If Kane went to United, they'd finish above us every season and we'd be unlikely to qualify for Champions League the next 10 years. At a cost of at least £500m. Levy will find the money needed if necessary.

Agree, problem then being when other players start asking for that, current and potential signings. That's the whole problem with this strict structure, we have a lot of important players, they will all want parity.... or their agents will tell them they should.

Do you know what's worse than this article?

Guys at your work saying "See Kanes leaving then?"

And having smug Man Utd fans saying "Kane's coming to utd". I follow it up with asking if they wanna bet a grand that he stays and they soon shut up.

A few thoughts:

First, the real value that Kane brings to the club is not necessarily on the pitch. If Kane continues to be a leading scorer in the PL - AND makes his mark on the international stage next summer in Russia - he becomes a household name globally. That does two things - it raises his own marketing fees - and two it raises the profile of Spurs, which leads directly to more revenue - combined that allows Spurs to raise his wages, and also for Kane to be among the highest paid player from all sources.

Second, Spurs have always treated Kane well, and Kane has always treated Spurs well. Levy has increased his contract several times in the last few years to reflect his growing importance to the Club, and for his part, Kane has never kicked up about getting a new deal. I don't expect either side to change now.

Third, Spurs are generating new revenues to increase their wage structure - the structure itself is tied to revenues, as revenues rise, so to will wages. Levy is just careful to ensure that if revenues fell - like if we missed CL - that we have no over-extended ourselves with wages. I think I have read somewhere that many of the contracts have bonuses that are paid out - presumably these bonuses are tied to extra revenue like CL - so that the base wages remain within the revenue structure, but players get paid more when performance earns more revenue.

Kane is the face of the club. He is homegrown, he is one of our own - and that is not lost on Levy, Poch, or any of the accountants. He will get paid.

I'm up for giving him about £250k (potentially) a week, maybe £150k basic, £50k appearance and £50k uplift if in Champions league.

Sorted.

Think Dele will need similar, if he continues last seasons form.

Somehow Athletico resigned Griezeman with a wage budget dwarfed by ours, with Utd and most other clubs wanting him.

So this would be a "strict structure stricture"!

I just can't understand how people could claim Maureen was a great manager. All his career has been based on cheating on and off the field. Before he came to England, there was a lot more respect to referees and he started the swarming the referees and rolling in agony revolution in the British Isles.

United were swarming around refs years before Jose arrived.

He signed a new contract in December. You can't give him a new contract every six months. Let's see where we are before the world cup.

What's worse than that is working in an office where they don't even know who Harry Kane is.
