You simply can't argue with Defoe's record in Europe, so he needs to start until he leaves the club if that is in the next season.
The thing is that you can argue with that record as although he has a few European goals this season he has been largely anonymous in the games. The biggest kicker about Defoe at the moment is that his place in our squad is clearly hindering the progress of more talented players.

I'd love Kane to make it with us, as I do all the players from the academy, I've written him off only because I don't think he will get enough first team opportunities.

Let him and Ade compete for the 2nd striker spot. Loan Defoe to QPR now then sell him to then as soon as the window opens. Get him off my team. Offers absolutely nothing. I think I'd offer more than Defoe out there and the last time I played soccer was at center back in the town youth league when I was like 8, so about 13 years ago, and I was fucking horrible, if I may say so myself.

No.

kane > 2013 defoe + ade1st choice sold ado
2nd kane
3rd defoe

at least kane works hard, is unselfish, can win header, has a good shot in him, helps in build up play.

I'd really like him to make it in the prem as I've been saving a comment on my signature for if he does. :)

I can't see him getting enough games for us this season. It's hard to say but I'm sure Tim will know what's best for the lad... Ideally loan out to another prem team.

Maybe now people can stop comparing him to Lee Barnard, he has always been a lot better player than Lee ever was and once Kane himself starts believing he is good enough he will be a big asset for Spurs.I have watch a lot of Kane over the last few years and can say that he plays better in the hole behind a main striker and never up top on his own,he has gained a extra yard of pace even though he is still slow and physical he has changed looks in the best shape he has ever been in.

I think he showed far greater measures of physical strength, confidence and quality while he was on the pitch last night than i've previously seen. I remain hopeful that he will have a career with us.

Not just aimed at you but for general consumption......This type of comment has been creeping back into SC for a while now (as are abusive comments in general) and if it carries on much longer we'll have a clampdown and return to being nasty, heavy handed and brutal with the banstick. Quite possibly a visit to your mums could be thrown into the mix as well.

A purge is afoot.

He can't do anymore to stake a claim. I feel he will need to go out on loan like Townsend and Carroll to get regular games.

Having Soldado, Defoe and Ade in front of him is just too much competition for him.

I'm not sure he'll have Defoe in front of him for much longer.

pleased to see a lot more positive posts on those thread than previous Harry Kane threads. I've said all along that his game needs him to be strong enough to compete with big bullying defenders, at 18 that's not going to happen but as he matures we'll really see him at his best, good to see that is now happening.

I'm not so sure. Having got the goals he has so far this season, I think he will carry on starting the cup games
Oh i'm not saying that he'll replace Defoe in the pecking order immediately, I just think his (Defoe) time with us is reaching its natural conclusion. Although you can never say naver in football, I don't think he'll be on his way in January, but I do think this season could very well be his last with the club. Hopefully Kane will then be given a 'proper' chance to make regular starts in cup games and press on from there.

I never saw what the fuss was about him. Until this season. He's really impressed me in the two games he's played, and he looks like he feels he belongs at this level now. Don't loan him out - play him as many minutes as we can in cup games, and keep him in the group. Never thought we should have loaned Andros or Rose last season (personally feel that contributed to not getting to CL), so please don't go down that route again AVB!

I completely agree with that.

Kane needs competitive games, similar to what Chelsea are doing with Lukaku. Although I don't see a prem team giving Kane a starting place unfortunately

Thought he's been great in all of his appearances this season. I'd rather have him in and around the team than Defoe.

Great goal last night and looked very good when he came on. Sheringhamesque is a decent description, not going to pin it to him just yet though as Sheringham is the most intelligent English footballer of the past 2 decades (well, him and Le Tissier). I think the boy has a future with us, he could well become a genuine competition to Soldado/ a different type of option to Soldado if he pushed on from this as last night he showed three great finishes with his three shots, great awareness and a lot of fight too when others were flagging. He also has a touch more pace than I'd every previously accredited to him.

I remember seeing a video of him, long before Harry started involving him on EL benches, absolutely demolishing the Utd youth team when he was just a nipper and I made the Sheringham comparison from that, last night and v Cardiff he really showed that he's beginning to apply that to the speed and power of top level football. Would be great if he and Andros become regulars for us over the next few years and after our youth system being a baron wasteland for so long, we suddenly produce two absolute gems.
