'Leeds fans are absorbing the news that former favourite Harry Kewell has reportedly signed for Turkish club Galatasaray after Liverpool failed to offer him a new contract.
The Australian was in the Leeds side against Galatasaray in the UEFA Cup semi-final the night after United fans Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight were stabbed to death in the streets of Istanbul.
The Turkish fans were incredibly hostile that night and Leeds fans had to be escorted to the airport by police after the match.
While the alleged killer has been tried and convicted, the sentence was quashed and the case still drags on, leaving a bitter taste in the mouth of Leeds fans and many will think it inappropriate for Kewell to sign for Galatasaray.

Can’t he remember having to leave the pitch between two lines of riot police, who were needed to protect the Leeds team from the baying Turkish mob?
From a footballing perspective I would have though that remaining in the Premiership or going to Italy would be more attractive options, so have Galatasaray offered him higher wages than the other two clubs who were after his signature? Lest we forget, Kewell is not exactly short of a few bob, after the way he and his agent ripped Leeds off when he moved to Liverpool in 2003.

I think it's slightly unfair to take that stance on Kewell's move, it was probably a purely professional move and Turkish football is really on the up.

Getting away from it all might be best for him, new start and all that.

Mike (take the Devil's Advocate view) Parry on Talk Sport radio has been bleating on for two days about this very subject, saying it's a disgrace and encouraging Leeds and Liverpool fans to get on the blower to swell the TS coffers.

Kewell had nothing to do with the murders of those Leeds fans and to insinuate that he is turning his back on their memories is quite franky, cynical.

The guy has a fifteen year playing span and he is nearly at the end of his career. Like Carlos and Rivaldo, he is going to play in a passionate league which will pay him well and also offer him top European foortball. He owes his previous clubs nothing other than justification that he earned his wages, which is the point most scousers are sore with.

Whats the prob' with Harry playing for Galatasaray????

Not directly resposible for that grief, and only feel sorry for the Turks' who wil pay his wages whilst he is reportedly unfit to play.

Ridiculous.
I mean, seriously...

Good luck to the geezer I say...very very important not to get hung up on isolated moments of history, especially when taken out of context...Talksports Mike Parry is just generating trouble...knobhead...
