Harry to go in summer?

OK, so the title is a bit dramatic, and personally i really hope he stays.

But if we end up 6th or 7th at the end of the season, on the back of what we had to build from last summer, then surely this must be seen as failure on Harry's part.

For once i think DL had money to spend if we needed to, and yet Harry seemed very unexcited about signing anyone yesterday on ssn.

If this serves for us to not make CL again, and worse even ends up with us missing out on Europa, then do we think he will go.

So i guess my question is, what position do you think we need to finish in to ensure there isn't a tonne of pressure on Harry in the summer?

4th. Finishing outside the top 4 could leave us on a slippery slope when bale modric and vdv look for champions league football elsewhere. Might get one season outside of the champions league with them.

We might be ok with 5th if we are lucky. It would help if we can get past Milan. I hope Harry and Levy learn from this window and try to line up a striker now to join us in the summer, so that our prize assets can see we are serious about progression.

We need to be careful what we wish for. Remember what happened last time we sacked a good 5th place manager for Ramos?

I think Harry needs to accept a DoF though, and if he doesnt then he needs to go. Our buying strategy is non existent.

Harry is a good coach and has an eye for a player. But I dont think he will ever get value for money from buys. Management is more than enough for Harry without having to scout players too.

I say get Arnesen back.

I dont see Harry leaving until England come knocking, and thats not gonna happen until after England do what they usually do, and have a stinker at a major tournament. I love HR, but wud snatch jose's hand off in the summer if that was possible, which it isn't.

I agree with the need for a DoF to handle signings. Between Levy and Harry our approach to transfers is very cowboy.

I just think that maybe Harry is a manger who has a ceiling to where he can take a team, and that ceiling has been reached now.

This season without any domestic cups left to compete in, looks like being significantly worse than last where in addition to CL qualification we also made the semi-final of the FA cup.

Who has been our best manager for years and years?!

Harry has, or at least he has been the manager during our best season for years and years. But Ramos also managed us during our best season in years and years (CC winners remember) and look how that turned out when things started going a bit stale.

Oh my.... Get a grip people.

We're 5th, over halfway. How on earth are we going to slump to 7th? We're looking up not down. The fact Liverpool signed a big lump who's still injured and an unproven temperamental striker, doesn't mean they are set to overtake us. They still are useless at the back and they still lack a passer in the centre of the park.

Chelsea signed Torres. So? They've been shit this season. I watch a lot of their games, they're hardly awe inspiring.

We've been good so far this season. One bad defeat and a dodgy draw up norf won't change the fact we have a better side than Liverpool, and a side capable of finishing in the top 4. I don't think not finishing in the top 4 is the end of the world anyway.

Modric and Bale won't leave in the summer no matter what I believe, and we'll have a warchest to rival Man City. Our strikers will eventually hit form, we just have to settle down and stay calm.

Jeez... "Harry out if..." threads are waaaay OTT and really quite disgusting to see. We're still in the Champions League ffs.

Its ok having a war chect the size of the bank of england, but if you dont know where to spend it,then its useless.

I like Harry, but I think he comes across as though he couldnt give two flying f**ks about things when on the TV.

Our strikers have been useless this season, yet he cant seem to get the best out of them or even look to replace them?

Failure to get Champions League again this season will in my book be disastrous.

Sooner we can get a new stadium the better...

I think any lower than 6th and there'd be some pressure on Harry. But I'm convinced we'll finish 5th so no need to worry :)

Sacked because we didn't sign a player? It's like people have given up and are resigned to the fact that we have no chance to win football games. Which really is what it is all about, not transfer signings.

I'm personally glad the window is over and we can just get on with playing football again. It seems like for the whole of January the club (from the board, coaches, players all the way down to the fans) have been focussed so much on the transfer window that it has taken away from what we are doing on the pitch.

When it was just about football in November and we were beating teams left, right and centre (without any strikers) people were talking about us maybe winning the league and having the deepest squad in the Premiership. Now it seems that because we didn't sign a striker we will never score a goal again and if we go into a game with West Brom we would be longshots to get a victory.

I'm pretty hopeful that now the window is over and we know exactly where we stand at least until the summer, we can try to find the right balance and start enjoying games and beating teams again. Even without the new striker to give us a lift, there are very few sides that can hang with us when we start to play football. Our strikers will undoubtedly have a better return in the second half of the season than in the first half (I simply refuse to believe that Defoe won't have at least one hot streak this season - just watch his movement in the early part of last season and the way he always attacked Lennon cut backs in the 6 yard box. So simple but effective).

As for catching the teams above us, why the hell shouldn't we be able to do it. Torres makes Chelsea's squad stronger but he might well breakdown after a few games. No point being scared of them, we play them once and in a one off game like that who is to say that we don't have a chance. Torres and Drogba might not even hit it off and the rest of there side has plenty of weaknesses which can be exploited. Arsenal didn't add a defender or goalkeeper. Man City added Dzeko but they still have frailties and rely on Tevez too much, if he doesn't match his early season form they won't keep up that pace.

So why are we giving up already, that really isn't going to help. The fans have to be positive, the players have to be positive and then we just go about playing football which is what really matters. If Blackpool can get points with the squad that they have and don't moan about it then I don't see why we can't overachieve to the same level.

Half a cup run is not a fair comparison to the consistant improvement we've had under Harry, its not perfect but its as good as its been for some time.

Yeah we should make Jose an offer he cant refuse.

how do you think Jose would have reacted to this transfer window

if we failed to boost our squad and become stagnant, we'd probably be seeing the back of him as well

dimiSpur please bother to read this thread before posting.

We're not saying we want Harry out, we;re saying where do we think we need to finish before the pressure starts mounting.

Also we're 1 point off 6th and 6 points off 7th as the table stands.

Versus 3 points off 3 points off 4th and 7 points off 3rd.

That means we're closer to the teams below us than the teams above us.

I think i'll leave the post mortem until the season has actually finished.

Yes, I can't deny I would have liked a world class striker. We failed to get one, shit happens. I'm not going to slit my wrists over it, like alot of us were last night.

Liverpool have strengthened, but they are some way off us, Chelsea, yes, they have signed Torres, who on his day is up there with the best in the world, but the guy is prone to injury, who's to say he won't get injured come wednesday against Stoke?

We have the same strikers who got us to 4th place last season, we are in 5th position whilst not playing great, the strikers will hit form at some point in the season and then we see the difference.

We are in 5th place, 3 points off Chelsea, 7 points off City with a game in hand, we have to play them both. THis season has seen more ups and downs than Bill Oddie in his Malaysian Massage parlour, and there will be more ups and downs to come.

I am looking fowards up the table rather than backwards.
