Dembele would start in every other side in the Prem. To even consider not starting him in my opinion is crazy.

If I was a midfielder lining up against spurs, who would I rather face - Winks or Dembele? Winks all bloody day.

From a physicality point of view yes, but Winks can seriously give you the run around and leave you chasing shadows. Of the two I see Winks as the more effective going forward.

I agree, he would deserve it. There have been players called up before that have deserved it less.

However, i'd rather he just concentrate on Spurs this season. For now.

Fair enough, from a purely selfish POV you'd want him nowhere near the England team but I just think sometimes it's better for players to gain more experience with their national team, I don't think it would hurt us or him.

I'd like to see Winks start a lot more games. It lets Eriksen stay higher as he doesn't need to drop back to create from midfield.

Most of the time what Dembele achieves going past 1-2 players, Winks could do (that or better) with quick pass.

There different players. Winks is very good and tidy also but Dembele is one of the best CM's in Europe when on form. Everyone says he's the toughest player to play against. You cant just drop that. Its a great problem to have. Btw, Eriksen has 10 assists in the PL(most in the league) with most, if not all, coming with Dembele at CM.

*****They're**** Grammar Police are here. Move along, nothing to see here now!

Eriksen got over taken at the weekend by, if I'm not mistaken, Gylfi Sigurdsson! Not to discredit Eriksen as he is quietly going about his vital business for us and not receiving enough recognition!

What are you expecting from him?

I remember one of our most vital signings Scott Parker seemingly not doing anything other than basic efficiency. Winks has a lot more to his game than Parker but also gets through a lot of defensive work. Given time he will be undroppable but at the moment I think he is being managed very well.

It's nice to have an option to leave out Dembele every now and again so we don't break him too often!

He makes the stuff he does look very easy, which may throw someone off exactly how impressive he's been this season.

I can already see the same level of criticism coming Winks' way the same as what Carrick experienced throughout his career.

Exactly. The ball moves much faster than any player and Winks is a great passer. What I particularly like is the way he passes the ball to where the man is going to be when it arrives as opposed to where the man is when the pass is made. Passing into space creates momentum and fluidity whereas passing to feet can make things very static. Nothing whatsoever against Dembele btw - just think Winks creates more tempo with his skillset.

Yeah but what does he do? :p

He seems very mobile to go with his passing, unlike Carrick the 'crab' or whatever people used to call him :meh: - that will hold him in good stead in a Poch team you'd think..

Wow, Winks is rated highly here!

I think he's very tidy and rarely loses possession, but I've yet to see anything beyond basic efficiency from him.

That's the whole point we need a mobile tidy possession hungry midfielder who can keep play ticking, there are not many of them and the ones that do it best like Modric or Carrick can run a game.

This was the old Shankley motto at Liverpool - don't pass to where your teammate is, pass to where he is going to be. Served them well.

Winks also passes it with a lovely crispness and weight. The ball doesn't dribble to his target nor doesn't it arrive too hot to control. It's always just right. The boy's a talent alright.

This is it in a nutshell for me - given his relative lack of PL experience, he looks completely at home when called upon.

Critics will cite that the Millwall game was a different standard and we should expect him to boss a game like that but i would question should we? Many, many young players have looked out of depth and have struggled in these types of games, the fact he stands up and plays shows you his attitude is there as well as his ability.

Similar to Alli when he first joined (the comparison stops there before anyone complains) his touches and movement in games and the way he finds and creates space are all deemed easy things but are technically very difficult to get right. He's making it look easy at the moment.
