Lennon is coming back to his best alright.

The problem is, that even at his best [to date] he is still just an average footballer

Maybe, but the fact that he has more pace than Hale, makes him so much more than that.

Why shouldn't BAE be highly rated? I'm not saying I believe everything in the ITK here and some of it would be slightly worrying if true, but I certainly don't think it is unbelievable that BAE would be rated by Harry or any other coach who sees him.

It is true that BAE has had some fairly ropey games for us, but he has the potential to be a good, maybe even very good left back. Despite popular belief, he can tackle and has shown on a number of occassions that when he is in the right place he is willing to put his foot. On top of this he has other neccessary attributes which are almost essential in a modern full back. He has decent pace, a good engine and a very good left foot. He is not undersized and doesn't get outmuscled even when up against someone as physical as Kevin Davies.

Of course he has a lot to learn about defending and in that respect he is much like Bale. His positioning is fairly often suspect, he has to learn to make his opponent make the first move and then shephard him onto the weaker foot or force him to cross from an angle that makes crosses easier to defend and more difficult to attack (i.e. deeper). Fundamental fullback defending, such as stopping the cross coming in and not turning away from the ball and the man can also be improved a lot. He has to learn when to try and play his way out of trouble and when to put his foot through the ball and could maybe become more comfortable with the ball at his feet. He also needs to have a better understanding with his centreback.

Almost all of these things can be learnt. I fully expect Harry to have the defence well drilled and for all of our defenders to improve both individually and as a unit. There is no reason why a player with talent and all the physical attributes for the job can't develop into a top class defender who can be more than effective both defensively and offensively. I'm fairly sure Harry is qualified to work with top young defenders. The improvement in Glen Johnson over the time he was working with Harry was exceptional and he even had far more limited players such as Linvoy Primus and Noe Pamarot defending well and part of one of the most solid defences in the league.

I'm sure Harry sees a lot of our players as perfect for molding into better players and into an exciting and talented team. Let's wait and see if he can do it before we write of young raw players who have only really played a handful of games (for a bad side) at the top level.

BAE had his best game against Bolton. That said, he still almost cost us a goal with that poor back-header.

Bale is a LB and only a LB, BAE is an adequate back-up.

Gomes is what we need. He just needs to be reined-in a little by 'arry.

Lennon has been one of our best this season (that doesn't say much though). He is deadly coming off the bench when fullbacks are getting tired. Sagna and Clichy may have their work cut-out for them in the second half.

Sir Les and Teddy are the type of ex players who would bring a massive lift to the training ground. I've been saying for a long time we need some people on the staff that have a feeling for the Club, up until now we've only had Clive Allen really.

BAE has fantastic delivery though.

Thats' definitley true. Some of his crossing is as good as you'll see from any left sided player in the Prem. People argue over whether Bale is better as a LB or LM, but I think the same could be argued about BAE. Defensively the guy is a liability at times, but when he gets forward, he's very dangerous. Bale is well known for his crossing ability, but I think BAE is as good.

BAEs problems tend to be self made. He tries to be too cute with the ball and tends to get himself into difficult situations that could be easily avoided by playing it simple. I remeber an incident in the Udinese game where he had won the ball in the left back position but tried to flick it past the opposing forward only to lose it again. He can put in some good crosses, I remember a great on from the left in pre-season which led to Bent scoring with a header, but his final ball isn't always great. There are time when he aimlessly chips the ball forward down the line in the hope that someone is there. I've seen glimspes of a good footballer but, at the moment, his defending doesn't inspire confidence.

I know nothing, so I cant see if its true or not, but logic dictates that after seeing them play one game and have maybe two sessions with them, I doubt Harry has made up his mind about anyone, and what with bringing in some new coaches, I dont think he will make his mind up until the players have worked with the caoches.

Personally I think the Gomes bit of balls, he had a bit of a mare on sunday but every keeper has a wobble now and then. Redknapp said he rated him, I think its someone seeing the link with Foster and joining the dots

LOL!!! what makes me laugh is that in that last two seasons we have replaced almost every person at the club except for Levy. And there's no way Levy is leaking this ITK - so the question is where do these ITK's keep getting their info from????

At least Dan had the decency to admit his source was gone now, to me this reeks of someone getting one bit of ITK a few seasons back and riding it out for all its worth, despite being constantly wrong.

Amen. Also see that Harry has to be looking for new players, since the papers say we are selling a majority of our first team. Seems only Modric is safe.

I assume Harry will know that Gomes is playing through pain and injury to help the team and will judge accordingly

Just for the record I wouldn't pay too much attention on Harry Redknapp saying this or that player is good great or one of the best, he's always saying it, some managers may say it about some players and keep quiet about the duff ones but Harry says it about everybody it's his way to build people up to make them feel good about themselves and hopefully play better. Enjoy his words but watch his actions for the truth.

Hi DC, why is he playing through the pain? is Cesar Sanchez so bad?

Hi WS :) - well I'm no expert - but would you want your Spanish reserve keeper who's never played in England before to debut v Stoke or Bolton?

I think that is the clue why Gomes is bravely playing through injury for us - and getting a lot of unfair flak in the process for his commitment

To me Ramos should have played Cesar v Udinese - one of many inexplicable decisions that eventually cost him his job

who should play tonight - well depends on the state of Gomes' injury - but also if no King or Woody - would you debut Cesar tonight - makes more sense v AFC than Stoke or Bolton - but still ....
