Paul Gascoigne is my favourite all-time player, but...

Paul Scholes > Gazza, irregardless of year.

I'd love for Hoddle to replace Redknapp. His first stint was with ageing players, Campbell leaving for Arsenal that rocked the club.

Tactically his astute IMO (visionary) I'd prefer Hoddle to Poyet any day. He'd be my number one choice to replace Redknapp.

To be fair, he did sign most of them. I'm not sure how tactically astute you could call someone who seemed to prefer Gary Doherty up front to Sergei Rebrov.

Hoddle as England coach... yeah why not. First time around the problem was that he didn't have a squad half as talented as himself. I always remember a picture of him at England training playing keepy uppy by himself, on the mobile phone in one hand while using his other hand to point out something in training that was wrong. Not a single person in that squad could have done that, he truly was wasting his time there.

Not saying England is much better now, but it's a young eager group that understand it's a team game much better than the players during his first spell. It's a pretty critical call the next manager, there is a lot of talent that needs nurturing properly.

As for Spurs and Hoddle, don't really think day to day management is his thing. Poor guy had nothing to work with first time and he'd probably do much better now... but.

Good shout earlier re DOF, he'd be pretty good in that role. Not sure Levy would enjoy working with him though, pragmatic people never really gel with artists

I am surprised at some of the criticim of Glenn, he definitely made mistakes whilst manager, but we were a club in transition, there were a lot of problems, and I enjoyed some of the football we tried to play under him with the veterens Poyet and Teddy.

Tactically, he did recognise that having the extra man in midfield was the future, although he got his from the back 4 rather than the front two. I would be interested to see him try his luck with another club first to see if he was matured a bit as a manager.

Found this quote from none other than Harry Redknapp back in 2007:

"Glenn Hoddle was the person for the England job, he had really strong beliefs about the way the game should be played. Unfortunately things cost Glenn his job but if he had kept the job he would have got us playing some fantastic football. He was the perfect man for the job."

Hoddle for England is a good shout I was discussing it with the guys at the arsenal game... We played good football and were unlucky to have been undone by phil neville against Romania... Would love him and Venables for the Retro feel!!!

Not sure about Hoddle being the next manager of Spurs or England, however when I see Gareth Southgate is the Football Association's 'Head of Elite Player Development' you have to think that perhaps that's the sort of role Glenn should be filling.

It's quite scandalous that there appears to be no place for Hoddle at the top level of the game, particularly in the area of player development.

Well nearly every point has been made but to sum up:

1. Tactically and coaching a style of play I don't think you can criticise him that much. He had a lot of success pre-Spurs at Swindon, Chelsea, Southampton. We were robbed in the QF against Argentina 98' and who knows - we could have won the World Cup that year. His stint at Wolves was poor but his stock had fallen massively by then and he was generally disliked

2. He had clearly lost the respect of our players well before results started going south. I was at his last game in charge (ironically against Southampton) that we lost 3-0. The simple explanation given for that is him telling players they were cr*p and showing them how to things 'properly'. Whatever is actually was it affected his ability to command respect and loyalty, which is absolutely essential, and could you trust that not to happen again

3. The idiocy of the disabled comments and the knowledge of how heavily Ghod squad he is makes it impossible to be able to trust him with the media or interacting with important people (and players again) and would be a constant worry

4. The media would hound him in the hope of making (3) happen and would delight in stirring the situation in general

Those 'idiotic' comments are surrounding beliefs held by a large percentage of the world's population (Karma)

He was asked if he believed in Karma, and when he said yes was given the most divisive of scenarios and asked whether he still believed it was valid in that instance. Of course after saying that he believed in Karma, he is hardly going to then baulk at the first challenge to his 'belief'

Glenn Hoddle Believes in Karma wouldn't have made a great headline though...

The press sat on that Interview for something like 2 years, until they decided the time was right to remove him.

That was Euro 2000 under Keegan.

I'd certainly settle for a manager that was smart tactically and who did the absolute minimum in front of a microphone.
It would make a refreshing change.

Paul Scholes at that time was better than Gazza, and taking our spurs goggles off, was pretty better for most of his career.
