Am I missing something about Holtby? I heard LOTS of great things about himand saw the obviously polished YouTube vids... and he had a good opener for us (can't remember who it was against), but his form took a swan dive the more I saw of him. He ran around a lot and hassled, hussled and harried, but, when he had the ball, he didn't look that creative....well, no more than Sig or Dembele.

I know he's young, has a great engine and is a bit of a heel snapper in midfield, but, I'm still waiting to see if he has the creative spark some of you think he has.

Sig has taken a lot of criticism in the first couple of games, but I don't think he's done that badly. Not amazing, but definitely not terrible. Don't forget we have won 2 games with him playing as part of the team, and we have had gaps to fill due to injuries to Sandro and the absence of Bale. He wouldn't be my first choice, but, at least we know what he can do. For that reason I'd put him ahead of Holtby who has more to prove in my opinion before he can be seriously considered. Just my opinion.

Well it depends if we sign a creative player, because it could come down to these two if transfer dealings don't go our way, I disagree that it is a pointless comparison because I can't see these two players want to be spending most of the time on bench and I think it will be interesting to see who avb utilises the most, or if loans out one of them.

So you realistically think it is a case of either Siggy or Holtby behind Soldado every week?

I thought you were deluded anyway, but Sundays formation and team selection justifies my original point.

I see your 7 left footers, and raise you 9!

Lloris
Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Rose
Holtby Carroll Dembele
Lamela Bale Townsend

Fuck it, stick Fryers in for Daws and Benny in for Walker and you've got a whole team!

This is good, because everyone knows lefties are superior

Both will struggle to be first team regular's irrespective of Lamela or Erikson potentially joining.

Will be useful for Europa and League cup matches

At this stage I agree with most of your comments.
I think a creative spark is there & seen some other glimpses since he has been at Spurs.
I do remember a great ball he played against City for Defoes goal and in the Euro U21's in the summer he looked really sharp.
He needs a bit of confidence & a goal to feel like he has finally arrived at Tottenham then that spark might get stronger.
Start him tomorrow.

I think the first half of the game tonight has pretty much provided the answer to this thread.

Holtby's awareness, technique and energy levels are just so much more suited to our team and this level of football than Siggy.

I like the Ice-man's commitment and attitude but I'm afraid this isn't the right club for him.

Edit: funny how he makes an assist as I type this! :D

Still, I feel my point still stands.

For me holtby is a far better player, my only criticism is that last year, everytime he got the ball the only person he'd pass to was bale. Often running cross field to find him. He has looked far better tonight in my view

It was that or give it to Dempsey.

Holtby drove spurs forward last night, his best game by far and he brought others into the game.Impressed I was.

Let me just say. the sig is the UNLUCKIEST player in the top flight atm. the skill is there, the talent is there and the desire is there. he reminds me of bale when he first joined (except we win when he plays) eventually his form will reward us for sticking with him and you all will eat your words. even if he moves you all will be saying "such a good player why didnt he shine for us?". that being said atm i would say holty since he seems to be having a better time at it.

I thought Holtby had a really good game last night. Full of energy, vision, some fantastic passes and a cracking goal. All this when he is coming back from injury. Shame for Sig but for me its not a contest.

Lewis was great last night and Siggy although a little unlucky was not. I can't see Siggy making it at Spurs but Lewis should have a big future if last night was a glimpse of what he can do.

The thing is, as good as Holtby was last night, that wasn't a patch on his usual Schalke form.
