may well win their third European title in the four seasons he's been there. He's been injured a lot this season but I really feel he was the missing piece of the puzzle when he arrived. but their fans are so friggin' entitled they'd never know it.

I was expecting him to have done more

54 goals in 100 games is very decent though

Yep it's a very good goal return, he's done well to get that many especially considering the number of goals Ronaldo, Benzema etc bag. He would have more if it wasn't for his injuries. Quite a few of his appearances were when he hasn't been sharp after returning from injury. Look at how consistent he was last year before injury....he was really getting into his stride: 19 league goals in 23 appearances. That's what he can do when fit.

Bale hasn't been as good for Madrid as he was for us in our last season. He never hit the heights because they played him in the wrong position initially and injuries have since taken their toll. When I watch Bale nowadays I just think although he's still a brilliant player and can do things most players can't, he's just not as exciting as he used to be. He doesn't try things for fear of failing. When he does and they come off it's amazing but it's rare. He's more of a goal scorer now, he gets into good positions to score and also supplies good crosses for Ronaldo but that's about it. He's lost half his brilliance since his last season with us when, in my opinion, he was almost hitting Messi levels of greatness. Literally almost every goal he scored in that last season for us, if Messi or Ronaldo had scored them, everyone would've been purring for ages. Bad management and fear of Ronaldo shouting at him meant he didn't push on (in my opinion).

However, from what I understand, Zidane and the chairman are massive Bale fans so I can't see him going anywhere soon, even if the locals seem to prefer Isco.

Edit: saying all that, you know what Madrid fans are like. If he scores tonight he'll be a legend again.

Was it not his goals in the Copa Del Ray and the CL finals that actually won the two for them in his first or 2nd season with them; in about the 88-90th minutes, then as the opposition all pushed up searching for equalisers Ronaldo usually scored a couple on the break (despite having done fuck all the rest of the match) and takes the glory.

I could be misremembering :bag:

Yeah he scored that brilliant winner in the cup final when he made the defender who tried to foul him look a complete twat. I think he scored the second in the CL final to give them the lead before they eventually won 4-1.

He has these moments of brilliance but they're far too rare for Madrid fans, also those moments were 2 or 3 years ago now. That's a long time in Madrid..... This season has been poor for him. He's actually got a decent goal to game ratio but he's always injured and when he does play, he doesn't do enough (for the fans) when he isn't scoring. The fact that they love Isco too and usually only one of them plays at the same time, means they're ready to be vocal if he's not doing well. I don't think he's hated by any means but these are a set of fans where a section still boo Ronaldo from time to time, so it's hardly surprising.

He's won loads of medals, but I think a few others have hit the spot in here. He's not as key for Madrid as he was for us, obviously.

Would Madrid have achieved everything they've done in the last few years?

Probably.

He like everyone else in that team plays second fiddle to the walking ego that is Ronaldo. I'm sure the wages are great, but I bet the job satisfaction is shit.

Why would his job satisfaction be shit? He plays with some of the best players in the world, earning tons of money, winning medals , great weather and has a legend for a manager. It's about as good as it gets.

My point is that Real is basically the Ronaldo show, no one else really gets any credit.

Metalhead

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Absolutely. This was his dream move; you can see it in the hairstyle for goodness sake; it's pretty obvious that he is living his boyhood dream.
