In all honesty though, Jose seems to see the problems in our squad and I’m happy for him to see this through for the next couple of seasons. His signings last summer were all sensible ones (Hojbjerg, Reggie, back up striker, RB) he understood the unbalance in our team.

He is now starting to drop the bad eggs. He’s been spot on with the issues in our squad and looks like he’s trying to sort it. I’m keen for him to see this through and see where we end up. Maybe going a few steps back with spring us a lot of steps forward.

I'd say that the 'bad eggs' are largely of Mourinho's making. He loves a bit of division and creates it everywhere he goes so no reason to think it wouldn't happen here. We never had an ounce of trouble from Winks, Sissoko, Dele etc until Mourinho rocked up but they're now being labelled as trouble makers.

I mean trouble makers in the sense that they cause us trouble when they are on the pitch ;)

See out the season minimum. If we finish 4th he must continue. If we win league cup and just miss out on top 4 but end the season on good momentum then he should stay. If we win league cup and finish 4th build a statue of him

I don't think they are trouble makers, I do think that there's a general apathy in our squad and some players are stale and need to be moved on though, those are 3 players who I'd definitely move on and judging by SC's calls even before Jose arrived I'd assume most on SC would have moved them on as well.

I read the thread title and immediately thought about the coach for Dinamo! I thought they caught Jose taking a bung for throwing the game and the OP was asking how much time we think he should get. ?

So who were the bad eggs that lead to MP being sacked then?

The only players we've sold since of any note were Verts and Eiksen.

Sometimes, it's almost like people forget how terrible we were for the last 12-18 months of Poch's reign. It's those same players that have let us down this season and we need to get rid of them before we get rid of yet another good manager.

I’m convinced he’s not the right man but if he gets top 4 he will obviously stay and rightly so.

I'm really not sure. I thought Thursday was unacceptable and many of the performances in 2021 have been as well. But we are on the cusp of Europe hopefully and possibly a cup. What to do ?
I have given up second guessing what Daniel will do.
By the way - people mentioned about Jose situation having to do with Harry Kane's stance - what does that mean - I have been through the Kane thread and can't seem to find anything about it - could someone please fill me in ?

@Trix (I think it was) posted that Kane is fully supportive of Mourinho.

Kane is the Don Kaneone at Tottenham. People accept the offers he makes or they sleep with the fishes.

It’s a tough one re Jose as the football is at times rancid, his subs are often predictable and not in a good way and his team selections often leave a lot to be desired.

However, Jose has consistently come out and said the way we’re playing is not the way he told the players to play. Lloris has come out and backed the manager in terms of stating some players aren’t doing as they’re told and/or are not trying. Kane also appears to back Jose.

You then look at the squad he’s got and it doesn’t take a genius to highlight the plethora of issues with our defence and some of our other outfield players.

Lloris isn’t the player he once was but that’s to be expected given his age, the injuries he’s experienced and the fact he often has a pair of clowns in front of him.

Centre backs are either a car crash in terms of quality or in Sanchez’s case he’s making one too many unforced errors. Rodon and Tanganga however look promising albeit very inexperienced.

Aurier - much improved but his contract is coming to an end.

Doherty - disaster

Winks and Sissoko - can’t play together and they have way more bad games than good games. Due to this Hojbjerg and Ndombele are getting run into the ground as their cover isn’t anywhere near good enough.

Lo Celso - missed a chunk of the season injured.

Alli - spectacular fall from grace over the last 2-3 seasons.

Bale - waste of space for 6 months, then played well for a few games before putting his feet up again.

Outside of Kane and Son we don’t have a consistent goal threat. We need more goals in the EPL from our other attacking players.

What next?

Both Skipp and Sessegnon will be back in the fold next season. Fingers crossed we manage to get rid of most if not all of the garbage in our squad. Hopefully we can bring in 1 preferably 2 decent centre backs and another goalscorer. If we can do this then Jose should be given until at least January to make us more consistent or if we’re approaching the right track then keep him till summer 22.

Lol what was the point in this thread? It's literally just opening another Jose debate.
I messaged the mods and asked for it to be open for around a week. There's so much discussion on Jose. Some can't stand him and want rid and never wanted him in the first place. Some are on the fence and will judge him each step of the way and are not ready to commit to him or want him fired right now. Others think he should get time and given another season.

When discussing and people generally take a side it can appear that people are split. It's why I enjoy a poll to see how many people are on each side.

In hindsight I should have put in a fire at the end of the season option.

But right now it appears 3 fifths of people want him here until the end of the season. This suggests most are relatively on the fence and haven't completely decided yet.

Then 1 fifth want him gone now and 1 fifth are ready to give him at least one more season. So despite him being a polarising figure it appears many are relatively on the fence about him.

I believe the poll has served its purpose and the thread will be locked soon enough. As you say it is now another Jose debate.

The last two options are almost the same, if there was a keep till end of season then fire his ass then I'd vote.

Nope.

The 3rd option is you are willing to commit to giving him a full extra season.

The 2nd is a no point firing him now let’s assess at the end of the season option.

Roy Keane got a bit of stick on here, and on camera, for daring to suggest we only had 2 top class players (Kane/Son) but he was right.
Outside of these two only PEH and possibly Reggie have had consistent seasons but you still wouldn't look at them if you were at City/Pool/Chelsea etc.

The rest are, as you say, either hard working with a lack of quality, quality with a lack of hard work, very young, always injured, or have a mistake in them.

As Jose was responsible for bringing in 50% of our consistent players I think he needs to be given the time to bring in more.
He knows what's wrong, and after a full season, he knows it can only be fixed by moving the underperformers on.

Bringing in someone else will just delay the rebuild by another season as they assess the squad and come to the same conclusions.

The football is almost irrelevant, we need the painful squad rebuild that Poch alluded to and Jose is the ideal man for that.
