Great post, idol. This loosey goosey approach is fine when everything is clicking. It allows everything to collapse almost completely at the first sign of turnlence though.

Steps need to be taken in terms of coaching, fitness regimes etc to stop up being so feast or famine. We need a nice, steady flat-line of performance, the odd anomoly to be taken into account.

Player quality comes into it but there's a reason the clubs always challenging for the top 4 - and those going for titles are scarily good at this - rarely lose more than one on the bounce or go 2 or 3 games without a win. If they do, everyone's ring piece start to clench.

If a team has that many problems .....................the best thing to do is replace the manager because he is responsible for them.

We saw what he done with a decent transfer kitty,he bought Defoe,Keane,Bassong,Crouch and Palacios.

Does' that not say all there is to say?

Those very players helped us to 4th, so yes, it does say all there is to say. Good point.

I am torn on this one to be honest, he probably will deserve another year if we scrape 4th, but the way he has been of late we need to be as ruthless as he was about to be with us if a newer and better manager becomes available. We must think about progress.

If I pour acid into my jap's eye and hammer a nail through my left testicle it would still be less painful than having to put up with Harry for one more month or week or day.

Thanks for the good work, but bye bye

TBH - with our position at the time, and what was actually available, I don;t think he did so bad. Each of those players served a very decent purpose at the time:
We were in desperate need of strikers/goals. Crouch and Defoe scored the goals that carried us well away from any fear of relegation. Keane may not have been everyone's cup of tea (not wanting to open up old arguments), but Redknapp was very insistent that he wanted him back as much for his 'prescence' off the pitch as his performances on it - it worked.
We were so open down the middle it was shocking - Palacios gave us much needed bite. It worked. His brother was murdered in horrible circumstances, and, maybe, he wsan't quite up to the level we wanted - whatever, his effectiveness became something we needed to upgrade on. We did. But he performed a much needed job at the time. Thanks, Wilson.
King was perpetually injured, and Redknapp had virtually nothing else to work with. Bassong was a regular then and when we finished 4th. Again, not the greatest player on the planet, but he fulfilled a purpose.
Not so long before we had been in a relegation nightmare scenario. It is difficult enough to get top level players to join us now, even when we are pushing (or even in) the CL.
I can't see any problem with these purchases.
The only problem I can see is that we may have kept hold of Bassong and Defoe for a bit too long.

They certainly did. Crouch played most of the season, scored the winner at City. Bassong was a regular, as was Palacios. Defoe came in and played his part.

Keane was more influential in steadying the ship for us the season before.

Personally I think he's taken us as far as he can. Hopefully finish fourth and with a bit of luck qualify for the Champions League. Thank him for his service and some great memories and push on and get a manager who can lead us to greater things, someone who will be with us for the next decade. The only question is, who?

Harry now admitting that the speculation has affected our form of late!

Did he not dismiss it as nonsense a couple of weeks ago, claiming players didn't care who they played for?

The thing is when you talk so much, you're eventually going to trip yourself arn't you?

Indeed. I'd hope Levy was like that anyway and not so reactive that he'd potentially not make such a move due to circumstances. If a guy who Levy believes is available and what we need here over and above Redknapp then press the button and tip old H into the tank full of sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads.

But I think that is the conversation that Levy needs to have with Redknapp.

If Redknapp is fired without good reason its probably not just his contract that gets paid out its all his acolytes too - so it could be £10m. I prefer the £10m to be spent on a player or on youth development to produce a star.

If Harry agrees to changes, Spurs progress under Harry for a year or more. If he doesn't maybe no £10m payout - SP will probably spout on about Morton's fork......but you know SP !

This for me is the problem with Harry for the longer term. This needs to be reigned in, or its just going to cause a bubble of unrest growing bigger and bigger.

Goal have just done an article with Harry basically acknowledging that its affected our form of late. I mean seriously everybody knew it would.

It's funny...I've just read his interview: he says some of the people he works with (Bond? Jordan?) think it was a distraction, but he doesn't know.
I don't want to sound hysrterical, or a conspiracy theorist or what not. But if they knew he wasn't their preferred candidate, couldn't they have just said that straight away.
If he was their preferred candidate but they were put off by our dip in form, shouldn't they be acknowledging that they were very likely a primary factor in that? It seems to be a widely held belief.

Frickin' idiots at the FA

I'm confused...I don't even know anything about Morton's fork...is a dining fork? A gardening fork? A pitchfork? Help me out here, eh!

I see the Chelsea speculation has started up again tonight, a source close to RA claiming Harry is on his short list!

You couldn't make this shit up, not even 24 hours since Hodgson being approached for England and the media are like....next!

Get the next two weeks out of the way, then Levy has a big decision to make. One thing is for sure, if Harry is to stay he needs to totally commit and dismiss all other speculation instantly and emphaitically.

No to that and its jog on IMO. We need stability and an environment that allows us to progress, not being constantly unsettled where our manager is bigger than the Club.

Soooo....£10m+ from Roman and H in charge of chelsea?

DL, if you need me too, I'll draw the contracts up, deliver them, get them signed and sign them as an agent of yours pronto. I'll have them at the lawyer's office by 10 a.m. tomorrow.

SP, Mortons fork - a dilemma (but usually neither are attractive). Either Harry accepts change (see OP re tactics/coaching/media/transfer policy on page 5 of this thread) or he resigns with our thanks.

Morton's fork, Occam's razor, Nigel's spoon. These are all well known philosophical points, SP.

You need to get some more of that fancy book learnin'. You can't get by with just your looks your whole life.
