How many games have we left it up in the air in the last few minutes. Seriously feels like a bunch this year.

Lyon, Lyon, West Ham, Man Utd, Everton (unfortunately) now that I'm writing it I can't remember whom else. I remember the beginning of the year it was all awful but things have been going our way lately in the last couple of minutes.

Ahhhhhh football it all evens itself out over a season. 1st minute or the last minute of injury time doesn't bother me in the slightest, it shows the team is fit and not giving up.

no.. I mean I like it just not during game time.. it's gritty it's mental toughness. A little moxie is always nice to have. I think this team is relatively healthier than last year but I think also we have this tough swagger this year that we were lacking last year. Granted 1 man's scoring the goals but Dembele/Parker/Sandro/Holtby just have this toughness about them where we didn't have with Modric (not saying he's worse then anybody). You look at our For - 47 Against - 32 Arsenals For - 52 Against - 30 and see that we have 2 more wins it's a nice feeling to know that we can overcome.

Bale keeps doing it for us.

The madness of having one of the best creative players in the world without a striker to finish the chances they create.

As well as a new striker, I'd like us to bring back Berbatov this summer. He's still class and belongs at Spurs. Yes he's a twit, but with an apology and a few goals, all will be forgiven.

As much as I'd love him back, i don't think it will happen.. plus he does not have the pace we need now from any future striker.

Spurs eyeing third place come Monday

.
Conceding late goals used to be the clear indicator of our alleged lack of mental strength at Tottenham. But since Everton in early December we haven't repeated that particular party trick. In fact the foot's in the other boot. Even without our walking virility symbol the Boy from Brazil we seem to have shaped up pretty well lately.
Dempsey sneaked in the equaliser in Fergy time against Man. Utd. Bale has three late goals to his name recently: a couple of winners at W. Brom and Newcastle and the equaliser against Norwich. Against Lyon he left it very late in the first leg to put us aheadin the tie.
And now cometh the hour and a half cometh that man Dembele picking a good moment to get his second goal since joining us and taking us through when most of us had just about given up hope. Not me of course because I don't start out with any hope in the first place.

And now the 90th minute winner against W.Ham
We've got mental strength coming out of every orifice.

can't wait for Defoe to come back and give us another option. We can't rely on Livermore's late game magic game in game out to get us that last second goal much longer.

In reality we are probably the most wasteful team in the league with ratio of possession/shots to goals.

Hence the last 5 minutes always being a nail biting affair, we rarely see a scoreline that reflects the performance. We should be 2-3 goals up by the 85th minute in 90% of the games we play. Yet, we rarely are (west Ham at home is literally the only game I can think of).

We are a top striker away from being serious bona fide contenders. Berbatov would have been nice for sure.. doubt Utd would have sold him to us for the same price as they did Fulham though.

Further proof that AvB is a genius.

Hands up who would have thought the answer was to bring on Carroll, Livermore and Gylfi.

It was a AvB ninja mindfuck. Fat Sam and the spam just went in melt down in pure confusion.

Just putting it out there but considering Bale and Defoe don't really seem to get along (often squabbling on the pitch) and Bales run of form has come since Defoe has been absent, maybe Defoe shouldn't come straight back in.

This (the bit bold). It is mental toughness, the never give up attitude. We seem to have it spurts and last year at this time we lost it. I believe the players remember that time and the feeling and have steeled themselves not to do it again. They are now playing for each other and that makes them a very hard team to beat.

there is some logic to it.

Gylfi replaces Holtby - not gelled in yet seems to be the norm right now with Holtby better shot taker. Don't think AVB is set on putting too many defensive responsibilities on Holtby yet.

Carroll replaces Dembele - if injured and too close to getting a red card. Can't miss him against Arsenal.

Livermore - just the go to move late in the game for Parker

Obviously everything is hindsight but I would have brought in Benny for Vert to keep him fresh for NLD instead of Livermore at a certain point and would have waited for a tie if it happen to bring out Dembele.

Didn't realize we got a fourth sub with Pogatetz but it will work.

And if you take out the 5-2 derby game it becomes Arsenal F47 A28 - Spurs F45 A27 and 3 more wins! Hopefully we can repay them the favour this weekend.

I think that our teams are pretty even now in terms of ability. Last year they had a world beater in their team who gave them some consistency. This season it's us who have the world beater which is helping our consistency.

These last few games I have started to get the impression that our approach of "controlled possession" throughout games is done with an eye on remaining competitive throughout the whole 90 minutes. It's incredibly frustrating to see counter attacks being slowed down, but it does seem to be giving us extra energy throughout the team in the final 15-20 minutes.

to be honest I know Defoe was hot for awhile and is now all knicked up but I like what we're doing right now Ade goals or no goals. You're getting a creative pass (hopefully) from Dembele/Holtby/Siggy/Dempsey to Ade who's laying it off for Bale's left foot. Keep feeding Bale shots. We don't need someone to take away from what's working.

I'm still in favor of Defoe being a super sub but man it's kind of hard to put him in the game at 90th minute knowing what we've been doing lately.

I think that's a great call - was thinking as much - we need an intelligent, subtle, skillful striker to convert these chances, not some powerhouse workaholic, admirable though their work ethic might be.

Yeah but if we don't score first we have problems playing with teams playing 11 back.. Surprisingly the results differ from what I'm saying but I think we're built for 3-0 wins and our losses should come from 0-1 games.

10-5 in 1 goal game difference. (no draws included)
10-2 in games 2+ differnece.

Adebayor occupies their defenders and holds the ball up. I guess that gives Bale more time and space to play.
