How much did appointing Redknapp cost us?

Tried looking for a thread on this - but was wondering how much this has set us back.

I seem to remember Ramos being one of the highest paid club managers in the world at 5.5mill a year

I'm assuming a 5 year contract (worst case)

Then there's the 5 million compensation to Portsmouth.

No idea what Redknapp is on - perhaps 2 million for 3 years? Just a guess.

If Ramos had 4 years remaining thats 22m + 5 (compensation) + locking ourselves with Redknapp in for another 6m = 33m

Which is pretty much Berbatov's transfer fee.

Please tell me I'm totally off here (and then give me a new figure). I realise that it's not fair to count Redknapp's future salary but, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary (given our trigger-happy record) if we sacked him in another year or so.

Absolutely nothing if it means we're still in the premiership next season.

The way things were going this was no certainty.

Spurs compensation

Was listening to 5live just now and also in the Mirror, that Ramos is wanting 75% compensation for his remaining contract.

They are reporting that its costing us £20 million in total including the £5 million compensation to Portsmouth.

What do people think of this, do you think its acceptable that we are paying out so much, when we were really starting to flounder?

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...ation-from-tottenham-hotspur-115875-20845892/

I hate the fact that in today's culture, people get paid for actually failing in what they are paid to do.

How many years were left? If we pay him 5 mill a year spread out over the next 3-4 years, it's a bit easier than a large lump sum of 15 mill.

Sky just guessed based on paying up his contract and everyone is using those numbers.

We haven't even started negotiating his settlement with him yet and when we do it'll be a hell of a lot less than £20 mil. Some people are even suggesting various clauses we had will put it as low as £2mil.

He failed, he shouldn't get any kind of pay off.

I would guess a total of under 10 mill, 5 mill comp for pompey, couple of mill comp for ramos a 3 mill salary for harry!

I should still get a copy of the finances when they are relased so i'll be able to make a decent guess but i'm pretty sure that the top figures being mentioned are no way realistic

Surely there must be some clause in JR's contract that if he doesn't hit his targets, then he can be relived of his duties for a certain amount. If you'd done as badly at your job you'd be fired with no comeback.

at least, some people wouldn't think that Levy don't want to sack Ramos because of that hugh compensation. For sure he care about the club and footballing sides. Although i know some people will never talk about positives and they would say 'yes he did it because he will lost more money if we get relegated'.

Thanks Levy, I still trust you even if i don't like changing managers too much. But for changing the structure, it would be good and i hope we will invest in jan. for new big signings.

As far as I have heard, Redknapp is here for 3 years as he still plans to retire in 2011. Also heard he is on £3m a year.

If we keep him for the three years then we have saved £7.5m on his salary alone over Ramos' salary which will go some way towards offsetting the compensation package.

I have heard something along similar lines, don't know how accurate that is though.

No inside info. !

But if your doing a Cost-Benefit thing, the probable 'opportunity cost' - of going down needs to be factored in. It would be considerable!

£3m a year is the figure being quoted for Harry. Ramos must be getting at least a year's salary, something like £5m and his contract had nearly 4 years to run. Ramos is renowned as being tenacious in getting money that is due to him in his contract. There is a BS figure quoted by Archie on SO(not criticising him, he's just passing it on) of less than 2m for the 4 that have gone. My guess is that the whole payout, including the £5m compo to Pompey, is going to be about £12m.

I signed a contract with my employer which i assume covers me until I am 65 - does that mean if I am crap at my job and they sack me, I'll get a compensation payment of 14years salary? I don't think so - if Ramos got the sack he should get bugger all.

I read somewhere (sorry can't remember where) that Ramos is entitled to a maximum of two years money if he is sacked.

2 years sounds likely. The entertainment industry is very different from the world in which people do "real" jobs.

this what ive been saying, why on earth would be be eligible for a massive pay off?

I am sure the club would have some sort of protection in situations like this. Contracts do work both ways

My guess, for what its worth, would be that he gets paid till the end of the season.

If his payout was over 8m it would have to be disclosed to the markets

I think it will go legal but given the performance over the prior 9 months, I would imagine there are grounds for a far reduced pay-off if anything at all.

The club might leave final pay-off until after the AGM so that the payoff can go in to next year's figures.

Which would hurt them even more with no european football and the big spending we're going to need...
