well, as i said, we have a nice mix there, and it would depend on who was fit and likely to play for chelsea that day.

I certainly would feel way more comfortable putting THudd in than say Jenas, Livermore, Carroll, Bostock, Niko, Pienaar etc etc.

My fave pairing so far this season has been Modders and Scotty - even tho I thought we should be playing Modders further forward, and have Sandro sitting at the start of the season.

But that system then worked great at Norwich, lovely controlling football. You could get Scotty to sit, and let THudd and Modders do what they do.

As I said, its a nice problem for Harry to have, lots of options.

Thanks for clarifying who you'd drop for him then all being fit

As for putting him in over the others you mention I thought this was a thread about Hudd not getting a look in if all are fit? You won't get many disagreeing with you over him being next in line after Mod, Parker, Sandro...

It is comical to hear some posters 'take' on our club. It is almost as if this moment is all there is....blinkered exclusion of alternatives the order of the day. When will people learn that eleven players, no matter how well chosen, even if a seeming re-incarnation of the double side can't do it and won't do it without help. Huddlestone did what Harry wanted when he was used. To my knowledge Sandro has never/rarely been picked in front of him when they were both fit and available. True, we have altered our style somewhat but Huddlestone would be even more comortable now short passing and ball retention have never been an issue for him. To discount the bloke after being out and unavailable seems strange and somewhat premature. We will pick up injuries/supensions. We will need to call on squad players (Bentley 2010) and if Tom is recovered, he will continue to be in Harry's plans imo.

Agree with above post. He hasnt become a worse layer because he has been injured and not playing. He is a very good midfield player with attributes similar to but different from what any of our other midfielders. He isnt as mobile as Modric, tenacious as Parker or as defensively solid as Sandro. But his mid to long range passing is better than all of theirs, his ball retention is top drawer and he is more likely to score than our other midfielders.
Great player to be having coming back from injury to boost the squad. The only way I can see him leaving is if we sign a top drawer CM, someone even better than what we have now.

i think hudd would be awesome for us on the bench if he comes in only at around 65 minute mark. he will spray passes that we will allow us to stretch the opponent's defense further allowing us to penetrate easier..especially when they are tired.

hudd will probably not be a starter, but will be an extremely effective weapon to have on the bench. imagine you are down 1nil and you are playing parker and modric in the middle, but way to add the attacks without compromising our attackers would be swap hudd in for parker, making us more attacking yet balance at the same time.

Huddlestone would be more use at home than away. For home games, he would be worth pairing with Parker/Sandro.

It would be nice to have someone who can have a dig from outside the box in the midfield again.

You wouldn't seriously play Thudd ahead of Modric would you?

Discounting players while/because they are injured is a long and hallowed tradition on SC

I think Harry would pick Hudd over Sandro any day of the week personally..

When Huddlestone is fit, he plays, always has done.

Can't agree mate. No point playing Modric & Thudd + VDV in the same game. We'd lose our balance and they'd be falling over each other!!!

Much more reasons to play Sandro in there sometimes

If everyone is fit Luca and Parker start so for me Sandro would have more chance of starting with them than Thudd, especially as the 2 holding midfielders seems all the rage!

As per my Original Post made quite a while ago now I have never been a fan of Huddlestone and just dont get what alot of Spurs fans see in him.

For me he is too soft to play in midfield and for a bloke of his side seems to get bullied off the ball. He is also very probe to making silly fouls in key areas of the pitch. He is also very slow.

There is no disputing his passing ability but not sure this is enough in modern day football with the speed of the game.

I know the game is all about opinions and Hudd seems to have his lovers but I will say this..... We are much better and more succesful this season without Big Tom in the side. Luka is our play maker and he is the one that dictates the tempo and is our playmaker. He can do everything Hudd can do + much much more. IF Luka was sold/injured and Hudd came in to replace him and we didnt sign anybody else I honestly think we would have NO chance of getting a top 4 slot. Just my opinion.

I think hudd would get a fair chance, Sandro and Parker are quite similar where as i see huddlestone more of a deep lying playmaker with his passing range who is physical, He dont have the pace but if paired next to Parker or Sandro he wouldnt need it as much as they could be his legs, in the passed he has been paired with modric who likes to roam forward alot more leaving us open for the counter attack.

Friedel
Walker---Kabs---King---BAE
Huddlestone---Parker/Sandro
vdv---Modric---Bale
Ade

Could be very usefull for away games imo,

Is anyone seriously suggesting Sandro and Hudd wouldn't be a super midfield pairing.... because that's our back up - it's also the reason we won't fold later in the season

Jay it is an opinion I agree with. I just cannot understand why people here believe Hudd is anything but fourth choice now. As you say we are playing much better now than we ever did with him.

Huddlestone has proved to be a very valuable player for us in the past, and if he gets himself injury free and fit, will do so again, i think he has alot to offer us still. The season we got 4th he was superb....short memories some have, i think he would be vital in games like the west brom home game when teams come and park the bus, more and more teams will come and play that way here, and i feel Tommy could still play an important role if he gets his body right.

yep agreed he was one of the major players for us when we got 4th , i also remember playing young boys , he came off the bench when we were losing and helped the team improve big team. His range of passing is brilliant. Right now we could do with him as both parker and sandro are out.
