Most Belgians I have met tend to speak in English to the other half, but the French side only speak French usually.

Sorry Spurious just realised you made same point!!

The Flemish are excellent linguists and most speak excellent English and French. Same can't be said for the Waloons who don't really make that much effort to speak Flemish (in general). My team are all Flemish speakers, bit embarrassing when there are 20 of us in a meeting and it is conducted in English for my benefit!

Furious Lyon accuse Tottenham of reneging on agreed Lloris deal

This morning it looked like the only hurdle to Tottenham signing Hugo Lloris was the goalkeeper agreeing personal terms but now it appears the London club have managed to scupper the move themselves, and left Lyon furious in the process.
The French club say that Spurs have reneged on an agreed fee and tried to get Lloris for less. In a statement on their website they say:
Olympique Lyonnais informs that we have not have reached an agreement with Tottenham for the transfer of Hugo Lloris.
Proposals submitted by Tottenham tonight are significantly distant from the principle which was officially recorded on August 26 and which had opened up discussions between the player and the London club.
This leaves Lloris in an awkward position and tarnishes Tottenham's reputation. It's one thing trying to drive a hard bargain in the transfer market and it's quite another angering clubs around Europe with derisory offers and stunts like this.
Tottenham are not the only club who want to get a good deal and those in charge of other football clubs aren't naive and with little sense, Lyon themselves have done well with transfers for years. A repeated lack of respect in the transfer market won't help Spurs in the future.
There are now just over 24 hours left in the transfer window and Spurs need to bring several players in but their behaviour over the past week has hindered that process rather than helped it. Supporters will hope to more additions on top of Dembele this week and probably want them to be better than last minute loan arrangements.

Fuck sake, why the fuck have we lost out on him. I want to convince myself that it's pr or something but knowing us it isn't.

All well and good selling 323 players and bringing in millions but then failing to get anyone in is unacceptable. Yes I am already in anger mode.....in the hope that I will be happier tomorrow :(

It's on Lyon official site, but not in the context above.

More like we bid, they didnt accept. Then they realised they needed to sell, so we offered slightly lower.

Exactly. That "article" is essentially made up based on Lyon's statement.

Yes sorry, just seen it - google translate "Olympique Lyonnais informs not have reached an agreement with Tottenham for the transfer of Hugo Lloris.

Ah well, today is a mind bend - waking up to see Remy coming, Mouthino done, Lloris medical to none being done, this is symptomatic of being a Spurs fan in general. (n)

Just a bit of the Wiki page on Lyon President and owner Jean-Michel Aulus...

After establishing Lyon as a contender in French football, Aulas adopted a strategy which allowed the club to acquire many of the top players of other clubs in Ligue 1. After excelling at the club, the chairman would then sell the players for exuberant fees to clubs abroad. His complex style of negotiating has led to the successful transfers of many former Lyon players such as Michael Essien, Mahamadou Diarra, Karim Benzema, Florent Malouda, Éric Abidal, and Tiago Mendes with all the players departing the club for transfer fees as low as €15 million (Tiago) and as high as €38 million (Essien). On the negative side, Aulas has been lambasted for, according to critics, running the club as if it were a business. The club currently operates on the European Stock Exchange under the name OL Groupe, initialed OLG.[5]

how ambitious is Levy, i understand he doesnt want to run the club into the red (1 decent transfer window isn't gonna do that)
I get that he likes to get value for money but we have a new manager who has a lot to prove, and he isnt backing him with the players he has identified and that seemingly are more than willing to come here! which makes a change from a lot of players who would rather go to a champions league club or a club that pays mega wages, Willian, Lloris and Moutinho all what to play for spurs!!
what a fucking liberty this window is like every single one of them since we finished 4th for the 1st time

This time yesterday things seemed very promising with a lot of players but now it seems more gloomy.

I'm not quite sure AVB has identified anyone. We were linked with most of these players when Harry was in charge which leads me to believe its Levy having the first and last say on incomings/outgoings. Gylfi, Ade and Vertonghen were all pretty much being signed before AVB arrived. Seems to me AVB doesn't have as much control as we're led to believe.

I hope this gets sorted out, though it seems unlikely now.

It feels like it's been a terrible day for us.
