Humiliation.....

A lot of fans don't want to win any Micky mouse trophies though.

I hear what you are saying lads when mentioning Rochdale/Pompey/WHU, but I'm on about clubs with massive fan bases and quality squads like ourselves. Truth is the vast majority of our humiliations are self inflicted sadly....

i know its depressing but at least we arent Rochdale

I reckon that the mentality of our fan base is the most messed-up of any in the Premier League.

As a collective, we are full of self doubt and low esteem (“…we can’t compete with the likes of United, Chelsea and City…”), while simultaneously believing that we are one of the biggest clubs in Europe, but realising it could be worse (“…at least we aren’t Rochdale…”), yet optimistic that real success is just around the corner, with a bit of luck as long as we don’t f@#k it up as usual, and so we don’t really care about “any Micky Mouse trophies” because we’re better than that, even though we’re not good enough to win them…

I don’t think any other club is so unsure of itself than Tottenham. The likes of United, Chelsea, City, etc. expect to be winning the league every year. Liverpool and Arsenal even despite their problems assume that they will be top 4. While the likes of West Ham, Villa, Newcastle, even Everton, ‘know their place’ in the pecking order, even if some seasons are better or worse than others.

On the other hand, 50% of Spurs supporters might think that finishing 5th place was a complete failure, while another equally sizeable group might think that top 6 is good enough. Honestly, I think we are a bunch of sporting schizophrenics.

Humiliation is too strong a word. "Let down" works for me.

Humiliation i'll save for if we ever top the table by a couple of points and a game in hand, and we're telling everyone how this is our year, we're going to win the league, then stuff it up totally and watch us slip out of the Champs League places and, despite some desperate efforts getting the odd result, ultimately lose out on 4th to Everton.

Thats just football. All part of the yin and yang.

There is 'your' problem, we are not "big". We are just a club in the premiership who finish 'in the main' between 8th and 5th.

Nought wrong with that! :)

"Humiliation....." not even close. Get a out more.;)
Was going to post the exact same thing!

Yes we are a big club but then, so are Everton. Agreed with the rest though.

We've had lots of humiliation. The only two times I've been proud and optimistic about where we were going, they sacked Jol and Redknapp.

Who remembers those threads where people went onto other sites and basically laughed out loud mainly at Liverpool and post comments on Spurs sites like we had a great deal to shout about.

You become a 'big club' through winning trophies and building a fan base or because some billionaire wants something to play with. Man Utd, Liverpool & Arsenal are examples of the former and Chelsea and Man City the latter.

Like it or not we are in the tier below along with Everton, Newcastle & Villa. We have a bit of history and a decent size fanbase but it is always going to be a struggle to compete when we are financially outgunned. It does however have the compensation of making our rare successes all the sweeter.

I would argue that billionaires aside we are the most likely of the 2nd tier clubs to make the step up.

Everton have had a great season but will probably only end up with Uefa Cup football and don't have the depth of squad to cope with playing Thursday and Sunday next season. Newcastle have Mike Ashley and Villa have Randy Lerner as chairmen which is like having leeches on your balls.

We have a deep but unbalanced squad, bigger pockets than any other 2nd tier club, the prospect of moving to a stadium that will bring in the revenue that will enable us to begin to compete with the richer teams, a decent youth set up that is beginning to bear fruit, and a London location that will help us attract players and managers. Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Dortmund have shown what can be achieved with similar resources. We are one quality manager away from a renaissance.

As far as humiliation goes I remember some graffiti I saw on a wall in Tallinn - "The shit we eat today is the fertiliser for our future".

Audere est facere.

Manchester City say hey. After spending close on a billion pound they still find a way to choke their way to humiliation. Lose to a relegated Wigan in the FA cup final and now blow their chance at the title to a near as damn it relegated Sunderland, utterly pathetic.

Leeds. Sheffield Wednesday. Villa. All these clubs have been in far worse predicaments than us. This OP is a little snapshot of why we are so hated. We really have fuck all to moan about. Oh woe is me we might have to play Europa again next season. Oh woe is me. We have been challenging top four all season and we have some cracking players.

Come on fella. Pick it up. We are not by a long shot. The most humiliating team out there.

In fact. Most things point to us being a club punching well above our weight at the moment.

Really?

I personally do not feel let down or 'humiliated' at all. We are not in a position to demand top 4 every year, or win a trophy every year like City and Chelsea are, we have to bide our time.

Arsenal fans since the invincible's have expected to be challenging for the title, and winning trophies on the regular, whereas we came from a low/mid table team to a consistent top 5 team in the space of 9 years, which to me is a huge success. It would be nice if we can take the next step up and be a top 4 team/ win trophies more regular, but when there are 5 better teams in our league with one or two equal to us it is extremely hard, in reality for us a trophy every 5-7 years in what we should expect at the very best.

Sadly we missed our chance, we had two players currently winning trophies with Real Madrid, the likes of which we cannot sign and we didn't build around them when we qualified for the CL, instead we spent nothing, and the rest, as they say, is history.

It's been a really depressing season. I agree it does feel pretty humiliating.

I just say we ride out the meaningless fixtures, celebrate sherwood leaving. Then have a fun world cup and see what happens over the summer.

Whats this about Sherwood leaving !

Depends what you mean by humiliation? Last week, I paid a dominatrix to fuck me with a strap on then ride me like a dog. I then had to drink her urine from a dog bowl while she spanked me 40 times with an oar.

When I see Spurs licking faecal matter off of Arsenal's high heels, then it could be humiliation.

You actually paid for that? God, that's humiliating.

See this kind of attitude pisses me off...........why should we settle for mediocrity, there are fans here paying an absolute fortune in money investing in this club and have got very little success in return.
I want Spurs to be as big as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich and I want us to win at least one fucking league title before I pop my clogs.
