"We have watched with growing irritation the comments attributed to Manchester United (in particular Alex Ferguson) over their alleged desire to sign Dimitar Berbatov. "The facts are the player is on a long-term contract and his registration is held by Tottenham Hotspur. The player is valued at £30m and will only be sold at that price. The club will have no alternative but to report Manchester United to the world governing body FIFA if it continues to behave in this totally unacceptable fashion. "These public attempts to unsettle the player are completely against the regulations and the club will not tolerate them any longer. "In addition, the club is certain that they are a distraction for the Spurs squad as they prepare for the upcoming Premiership season. "No-one should be in any doubt that Tottenham Hotspur will do everything in its power to keep its best players."

It is the statement issued by Manchester United about the tapping up of Ronaldo by Madrid, with a few little tweaks

Good points, where did this come from? Or your own views?

"Manchester United have insisted they may report Real Madrid to FIFA over their public pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Premier League and European champions issued a statement on Tuesday evening describing their 'growing irritation' at continuing comments seemingly emerging from the Spanish club concerning their interest in the Portugal attacker.
The statement said: 'Manchester United has watched with growing irritation the comments attributed to Real Madrid over their alleged desire to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
'The facts are: the player is on a long-term contract and his registration is held by Manchester United; The player is not for sale.
'The club will have no alternative but to report Real Madrid to the world governing body, FIFA, if it continues to behave in this totally unacceptable fashion. These public attempts to unsettle the player are completely against the regulations and the club will not tolerate them any longer.
'In addition, the club is certain that they are a distraction for the Portuguese national squad as they prepare for the European Championships. No one should be in any doubt that Manchester United will do everything in its power to keep its best players.' "

Has there been a statement somewhere? There's nothing on the official site.

I agree though.

If you are trying to demonstrate a parallel between what Real Madrid did to Manu and what Manu themselves are doing to us then I dont think the above is quite relevant.

I am of the opinion that Real Madrid approached Ronaldo not the club, where as Manu (correctly)approached the club and not the player, as they are entitled to do.

Okay it may be very irritating with more than a touch of arrogance, and not in the spirit of equity but Fergie has done nothing wrong. If he is persecuted for trying to buy a player, or making a smaller counter offer than the one on the table, then you would end up with 19 other guilty premiership managers!

WALOB Fergie shouldn't be making public statement about our players until a fee is agreed.

He is trying to force down the price by unsettling the player. He wants Berbatov to pull a strop to secure the move.

I disagree with this. There is one key difference, Fergie has only comented on the desire to sign Berbatov post making an official bid, at which point he is free to comment on the bid to his heart's content.

Real used the media to persuade Ronaldo to turn against United BEFORE even lodging a bid.

Fergie has acted quite well about the whole thing, I think this is the first time he's ever confirmed publically that they are interested.

Come on though, hasn't Fergie been saying he wants to sign Berbatov ever since the end of his first season here and they've only just got round to making a bid...

Well said except instead of 30m the statement should be 40m

He is entitled to making as much public statements as he wants whether you like it or not. As again all managers have done so in one way or another.

As to unsettling Berbatov, I think you are accusing Fergie of something that Danchev, Berba's agent, is actually guilty of. Has been giving lip service to Berbatov to move since his first season with us, whenever the transfer window was opened.:bang:

Hang on a minute! Fergie was bang out of order. He said, and I quote, "We have made Tottenham an offer on Berbatov and we have good expectations that this deal will go through". Where did these expectations come from? The offer was rejected. The only way would be from dialogue with the player, either directly or indirectly, and in the absence of an accepted offer that counts as tapping up.

Saying that Real went thru the media and Fergie hasn't is also tosh.

Fergie knew very well that this would end up across the sports pages the very next day.

If that isn't just blatant bare faced buggery then I am afraid I don't know what is!

Ferguson should keep his damn mouth shut, the arrogant polyp.

He is taking fucking liberties.

interested.
You may disagree - but that is clearly in breach of the FA's own rules, trust me, I read them!

Simply putting in a bid in does not allow the buyer to make a public statement that they intend (or wish) to aquire a player!

We must give written permission before ManU ot Liverpool can approach any of our players (rule K3).

Rule K8 prevents any public statements by the buying club expressing a desire to sign a player - any such statement is considered an indirect approach for the player and a breach of rule K3.

Rule K8 is there specifically to prevent a buying club being able to use the press to unsettle a transfer target if the selling club has refused them permission to approach the player.

So Fergie has in fact broken both rule K3 & K8!
