That was January 2009, and it was never clear if we were actually interested or Aulas wanted rid and was trying to drum up interest via l'Equipe. He was trying to play us off against another club, I seem to recall. I've also got a feeling that he went AWOL, which ended speculation.

Complete nutter, and useless. I'd much sooner take a punt on the Cam.

Was it only 2009...it seems like so long ago, that niggling link to Fred which puttered on for a while. He was hardly the name that send you searching for the superlatives back then, and sure is even less now (though I was surprised he's only 30, that Fred story seems so long ago).

On the other hand, he had a rather dashing looking mustache earlier in the WC, but he's shaved it now, so I can't think of really anything left in his favour, except, all Brazilian internationals must be great, right? Like Gilberto..
