Would you be happy?

I think I would be, but inside I would feel like a cheat and upset with myself, like I'd done something bad. Money clearly doesn't bring immediate consistent success, but eventually it will you'd have to think no? Will their CL victory be remembered in 30 years as being heroic, or plastic? Same with City obviously.

Typing this actually no, I don't want their millions, it's unfair and a cancer on football. If we can hang in where we are and get a few cup wins here and there and qualify for Europe consistently I think I'd be more happier then if the Russian millions won us the EPl.

Thoughts?

If he owned us I think I'd slit my throat :arghh:

Rephrase that : I'd rather slit my throat than support a club owned by Abramovich.

Might not be a popular opinion, but despite all the grubbiness of an Abramovich regime, I want to see Spurs win titles in my lifetime and the harsh but undeniable truth is that a football club is much more likely to do that with the backing of a profligate billionaire than without one. I don't like what I know of Abramovich as an individual, but I would love to see the trophies that his money surely would have brought us if he'd bought out Spurs rather than Chelsea a decade ago.

And for people who value principles of fair play over trophies (no disrespect to your valid viewpoint, btw), just think that if he had taken over us rather than Chelsea then the Chavs would very likely have gone bankrupt under Bates and endured a much more miserable alternative future - I'm sure that would have helped to sugar the pill!

If he had taken over us instead of Chelsea I can safely say I would no longer be watching football. I could never stop supporting us, and would always check the results but I just wouldn't watch football. Abramovich and the Sheiks have ruined football, to see players like Aguero join teams that have become good artificially just disgusts me. More annoying than anything else is there attitude that flaunting the rules doesn't matter as any financial penalty just doesn't affect them. I would hate to be owned by any of them.

As you say total respect for everyone's own opinions.

As for me, though, I'm the total opposite. I've lost a lot of respect and love for the game and my love for Spurs is about all that is left to keep me going. And a big part of that love is for the way we do things, the highs and the lows...it might not always be plain sailing, but it's the Spurs way.

If we got bought by an oligarch then I honestly believe I would probably give up on football entirely.

Short answer is no I wouldn't be happy but not because of the money but what comes with it. I would hate for our club's fortunes to be dictated by the whims of one egomaniac. In that regard I've got to say I think Citeh's owners have behaved with more class than Abramovich but their problem is a lack of intelligence.

Lets put it another way would I like our club to be run by Daniel Levy with 12 billion in his bank account ? Yes because I think the money would be used in the right way and we would be run in a sustainable way.

I think we would have had a nice shiny stadium by now if he owned us, but I'm hopeful Levy will also deliver this during his tenure and continue to ensure we are a self financing business not the toy of a Russian crook.

I could understand someone pining for a foreign megalomaniac
if we were constantly achieving very little and playing dire football.
But the history of Spurs over the past decade in the teeth of all this money swashing around
is one of improvement, relative success and on the whole good football.
Even in this 'transitional' year we are third on New Years day.

We have done this the right way without exposing ourselves to the 'money men' and their whims.
Personall I would be thinking of sharpening my ice pick if such a person took over.
I would become an embarrassed follower rather than a fan or supporter.
All the reasons why I love Spurs would be wiped out on day one
and I would go to my grave with a heavy heart.

We don't need it, I don't want it. Lets win something not buy it.

It will be interesting to see who wants to buy us when Levy sells which he probably will do once the new stadium is finally sorted. Will we see a mass exodus of fans if we're bought by a billionaire?

I think the problem is that the billionaires are here to stay - whether the financial fair play rules (if they ever come in) will have an impact remains to be seen. Currently, there are two ways to be in the top 4 each season:
1) Billionaire owner (Chelsea, City)
2) Big stadium and reliable revenues (plus billionaire owner) (Manyoo, Arsenal)
Once we have the stadium (if it ever gets built), then the club will be more attractive. Bear in mind that there are two kinds of billionaires: the ones who want a toy (Abramovich) and the ones who want a return on an investment (Glazers) - I am pretty sure we would end up with someone who wants the club to make money (the structure we have would be attractive to this kind of investor). However, we do have a billionaire already (Lewis), albeit one who does not see the appeal of spunking large wads of his own cash on players. The difference is when an owner is looking to service their own ego (Mansour, etc) and is prepared to spend like there is no tomorrow.

It doesn't really matter that much whether he owns us or not...he owns UEFA, and can therefore do with us what he wants, as we have seen over the last couple of seasons :mad::mad:
