It was so unnecessary. "Spurs will always let you down". "Spurs come 3rd in a two-horse race". These were not the lines we needed at the end of a largely successful year. And if Villa were the most spineless team of the season, closely followed by Newcastle, but Newcastle did the double over us.....what does it say about us? It just looks awful. It was awful.

Poch did underestimate the Arsenal 'issue' and now our 'winning mentality' is open to question again. It had been turned into something real in terms of how we were written about, but it's back to the default now. Just such an unnecessary collapse compounded by an utterly inept display yesterday.

People need to keep their heads. Another slow start next season and the boos will be back and pressure built because the sore memory of yesterday is going to linger until we get back to winning ways.
Hopefully, poch will have the team super fired up for the first game.

I think that performance and Rose taking the piss might have re-focused his ruthless side. I think the players might be in for a shock in pre-season and I'm fairly certain that he would have made it clear, in no uncertain terms, that players will be out in a flash, no matter how much he loves them, if they don't give him exactly what he wants.

It's a good opportunity for him to re-affirm his authority and intolerance for nonsense.

Yeah haha brilliant. Finished above us 21 years in a row. Hilarious

Get a grip man. They have just put a missive plaster on an even bigger issue.

Despite the standings I'd have our season over theirs any day of the week.

Come on you know not to take Poch's comments as face value, who knows what he said to them behind closed doors. Poch has said so much contradictory comments in the media before so why would this be different. I personally to that as a message to the fans, not the players.
Naturally, I've considered that. But I actually believe he meant what he said and was trying to get the players to mentally detach themselves from this long-standing bugbear when it actually needed to be confronted and positively overcome.

Its brilliant. They've forgotten how bad they are.
All part of the master plan. Arsenal go into the summer thinking they're doing well and no need to make too many changes to the squad. Spurs go into the summer thinking they've fallen short and need to strenghten the depth of the squad.

All I have now is a major concern that we might be in a position to win the league and be ahead of arsenal (top )with a few games left to go and have this same shit happen because we have a mental block about finishing above them (a block we should have, beyond a shadow of a fuuuuuuking doubt, obliterated this season).

Difference being it would be the title we spunked, not second place.

Poch greatly underestimated the importance of this tbh. It's a humongous mental hurdle that needed to be addressed and overcome as part of our general progression.

It would have really freed and loosened us up, mentally, for next season.

No longer in the backs of our minds.

No more a monkey on our backs.
I don't think the players think the same way as the fans. This whole concept of getting the monkey off our back is not something the players think about. There is no mental block at all. We were challenging for the title and we missed out after 2 draws, then we had lost all our momentum that we had after the Stoke win. It happens in football and it's all about the swing in momentum between a team that lost sight of their goal to challenge for the title and a team full of momentum pushing for 2nd spot. It made no difference that it was Arsenal behind us, the same outcome would have happened with whichever team was in 3rd.

We finished below Leicester too and we haven't done that in many years but for some reason our fans are still obsessed with what Arsenal are doing. We'll always be in their shadow for as long as the fans keep measuring our success against theirs. Why the hell it matters what they're doing I don't know. The only times I ever care what Arsenal are up to is when we play against them or if they're in a final ro close to title then I hope they lose.

If you asked me beginning of the season that we will finish 3rd with an automatic champions league spot...I would of snapped your hands off.

However the way we have collapsed over the last month or two has left a bitter bitter taste. I am absolutely gutted, angry and pissed off (especially with all the gooner mugs celebrating like no tomorrow). Deep down everyone knows we deserved 2nd place.

I still don't know what to say really. All we needed was a point in our last two games :(

Having said that I know in time I will feel proud with the way we have performed over the whole season. We have so much to look forward to. All I want now is for Pochettino to really attack the transfer market and get at least 3-4 quality quality 1st team players so we can rotate when needed and keep all the players on their toes.

You don't think they'll discuss these things in France? The Spurs lads are in for some jip. If you had to spend the summer with Wiltshire you'd come back looking to settle some scores. If you hadn't already been locked up.

I think there would be people still saying that they were proud even if we were relegated.
I'm sure there may be a slight readjustment between finishing 3rd and relegation. I'm no expert but they seem to be incomparable.

In the end we're going to take a lot of shit from other fans. But we've been out there all season battling away. Where have Newcastle been all season? They only turned up today but won't exist in this competition next season. Where have Chelsea been? They turned up for the first time against us the other week to hand over their title to Leicester and celebrate a draw. Arsenal have done nothing all season as usual. We secured our second ever Champions League spot and the burned ourselves out completely in a ferocious assault on the title and fell short. I bet these other fans deep down wish they could have said the same
I think they would be wishing that they could be Leicester and winning the title rather than coming third.

I really don't think they will care about it that much. You think the Spurs players are poking fun of Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool etc? There will no doubt be banter amongst the players but it wont get under our skin because they won nothing. There is literally nothing other than financial gain (probably very small at that) between finishing 2nd or 3rd.

Pochettino was right, it doesn't matter what Arsenal are doing. We won nothing and that is the big dissapointment from the season. Not finishing below Arsenal who also won nothing.

Leics_Spur on ftl: Reason for Danny Rose's omission
From a source very close to some of the Sunderland players, apols if already posted:
Rose traveled to Sunderland on Wednesday with the club's permission to watch their match against Everton. He was a guest of Defoe and Kaboul, and was due to stay the night at Defoe's gaff before flying back to London early on Thursday morning.
After the game he went to Sunderland players' celebration at Fabio Borini's house. Got pissed with them and missed his flight to London, and so was either late or missed training. Apparently that is why he was left out yesterday.

Don't let the last few weeks over shadow your judgement. The season has been amazing and we have outplayed most teams with the general consensus of us being the best team the opponents have played against.

I posted this another thread.

At the end of the 2014-15 season, I was unsure of Poch. In fact, half way through that season I said to my boy that he isn't that good a manager (I am more than happy to admit that I was wrong). We finished 5th but the football played was not the best and we were a bit lucky in many games with last minute winners etc.

All we could all ask for was progression which we got this season by finishing 3rd and playing better football. If anything we were unlucky as we deserved more points as dominated quite a few matches but drew some of them.

Remember that this season we didn't beat any of Leicester, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea, West Brom or Newcastle. 7 teams which is a third of the league. When you think about this, then you realise how much further we can go.

If Poch improves as he has done in the first 2 seasons, and learns from this season's mistakes, then we should be in a good position next year.

This doesn't condone how we played yesterday because we were all let down, but hopefully it means Poch will learn lessons both tactically (get a plan B) and player personnel (new recruits and experience).

I'm the first to admit I was wrong about Poch and his post match interview y'day has convinced me that we will improve next year.

I'm honestly not mate, it's been a good season but I don't think it's been an amazing one. For me amazing is winning a trophy and we haven't done that. We've played some great stuff and there are some great memories but it's about silverware

Awesome season and I really enjoyed it. Had a dash of Spurs thrown in over the last couple of months, but the whole year has been really great.

I would probably feel different if I was over in the UK with most of yall and not here in the US, but with CL group stage guaranteed, I couldn't give a shit over Arsenal finishing above us. Now if we were in fifth having just been pipped to CL I'd be super super down and out.

But after this season we had, performing as the best team in the league even though we were the youngest with the best manager in the league?!! I'll chalk this one up to being a bit too young and inexperienced on one hand, and the squad being too short of CL level players to bring in off the bench on the other.
