I am not saying not to tale the CL seriously, but clearly if we starting putting CL on top at the expense of the PL then we shoot ourselves in the foot in the long run.

Who says we are?

Arsenal seem to have regressed back to their old ways, there have been 6 red cards in their matches so far this year, three of their players and three opponents.

Liverpool look dangerous this season too. We should probably resign ourselves to being happy with 7th.

Why are you just focusing on Man City? There's no reason why we can't finish above Arsenal or United who we are level with even though we haven't started well.

This.

There could very well be a change in the tides of the Prem, but teams like us in particular, need to believe that. A win in either of the games against Inter and a point minimum at Old Trafford may just be the thing which gives our players and everyone around the club the belief that we are a club on the up while others, (namely Liverpool and Manure) are struggling to maintain their positions at the very top.

I'm not saying I expect us to overtake Man U, but I truly believe that we can compete with them every step of the way this season.

said at the start of the season wed finish 3rd ahead of arsenil.

their keepers are crap. their two central defenders will get turned over by a good cf.

besides fabregas and sagna they dont have anyone who would get in our team

van Persie would probably have a game for us up front, as much as I don't like him. and Arshavin's still a good player.

Other than that we're not exactly light years behind them, they just grind out results (well, in past seasons they have) where we wouldn't. The fact we only finished a handful of points behind them last season proves the point really.

Up until this comment i was thinking "great post" then you ruined it. Van Persie, Diaby, Clichy, Chamakh would walk straight in to our team imo.

I wouldn't put Diaby into our team (personally) or Clichy, I like Disco Benny.

The jury is still out on Chamakh for me, but currently Crouch or Pav are hardly setting the world alight either so maybe he'd get a game too.

I guess it depends on the opposition. For some games Hudd and Modric is fine, but away at Chelsea id want a better athlete and someone who can break up the game which is what Diaby does. Benny is top drawer but for me Clichy edges it as is more consistent

Am not a huge fan of Chamakh but he is a goal scorer who can link up play - neither Crouch or Pav offer both of these things

Once again people need to remember that football is a team game. We can write up lists all we want regarding our first tema and squad being comparable with Arsenal and Man Utd but in reality i.e on the football pitch it isn't.

I'm not really concerned with Man City right now as every team is going to go through good and poor runs. At the moment they're on a good run but once they get a few injuries how will the players currently being left out perform? They might be good payers but I remember Steven Ireland saying hwo he stopped caring if they won or lost while he was there, they have their own challenges to face.

We've dropped points in the league when maybe we should have been confident of points but we showed a lot of people wrong last season (myself included) when we beat Arsenal and Chelsea. We've got a lot to be happy about and to look forward to this season.

Taking the title of this thread as a discussion about finishing position and not who we need, I think we could look at this two ways.

Citeh are within 2pts of leaders and looking sharp, perhaps we should be looking to beat Arsenal into fourth place.

Or, Citeh only just beat Blackpool to get that position and arguable should have had it sewn up long before half time.

Either way, it's going to be even tighter at the top this year. Money has to be on Chelski winning the title, but after that it's anyone's guess.

I might even have a Vbet on Chelski winning the Prem this year - that way, they wont win it and it mixes up the test even more. Just because I never win at betting. :)

EDIT: Didnt realise the bookie was closed doh! Have to put real money on instead then.....

Not Diaby, Clichy or Chamakh but ok for Van Persie.

I think this thread is born of the frustration of the if only! If only we'd beaten Wigan , if only we'd beaten West Ham, so I understand that but trust me that way lies madness.:)

I think the CL is all about doing our best and seeing how far we can go and how good we are, love to win it but no great heartache if we don't as the league is the priority.

Chamakh would walk into our team at the moment with Defoe out, and as i said earlier - with Diaby it would depend on the opposition. I think we are as good as Arsenal but to think only 1 or 2 of their players would get in our team is very nieve, especially considering they have finished above us for the past 15 years or so!

Chamakh, just like those wankers Nani and Samri, are cheating diving hijos de puta, bringing the Premier League into discredit and I hope we never employ such gutter scum.

I've been thinking about where we are in comparison to man u and the scum and in all honesty we are not as far as some believe. It is more a question of mentality rather than quality. The scum are generally better at home than us in the sense that they put teams to the sword where we beat the same teams but have to work harder. However, I think we are a better away team than them and also do better against the other top teams.

Over 46 games we have earned 5 less points than them (it would have been 2 less than them had we beaten Burnley and I think we all know that if had needed to beat them we would have), so over a season and a quarter and there is nothing to choose between the 2 teams. That must tell us all something. We are every bit as good as them and I actually think that when it comes to going toe-to-toe in big matches we actually have more than them.

It would also be interesting to see how many points we have gained less than Man u since the turn of this year. Not many I would guess. They are not the man u of old and we should be looking to be very close to them this season.

We need to concern ourselves with what we do because if we play to our very best we have enough to put in a credible title challenge. We are a decent striker away from being as good as anybody in the league.

In May 2009 we achieved the same points as them over the month - so it goes back to 50 games.

A great achievement considering they are classed at title contenders every season (not that i agree with that).

I completely agree. They are NOT title contenders in my opinion, but if they are then so are we because we have proven over the course of a season and a third where we have amassed basically the same points as them.

I also think that we are becoming mentally stronger and that is as important as anything. Pool believed that they could compete and they did, they no longer have that belief and so they aren't competeing any more. Yes they have lost players but they are good enough to challenge for a europa place and yet they are 19th.

We have the players and now we have the confidence. We are a top, top side and shouldn't fear anybody. You can be sure that Inter will not be taking us lightly on wednesday and will also be more than happy with a draw in the return match.
