Weird Dias and Laporte both on bench?

I know Laporte fell out of favour a bit last season too, which is odd as is better than Stone or Ake.

They can both come to us if they want to play regularly! :playful:

Not hear of Akanji who was playing at centre back alongside Ake either?
Almost like Pep is bored and trying to give himself a challenge. Proving he can win with lesser players.

Pride before the fall.

Either that, or he has made some strange blood pact with his Lego replica.

Saw some complaining about Micah Richards punditry. I dont live in the UK but saw the post match analysis on YT and had to laugh at this exchange.

Presenter: "So Micah, what does this result mean in the context of this season for Spurs?"

Micah: "For Spurs point of view obviously brilliant for City's point of view its not been good enough..."

then proceeds to go on about City for the next few moments.....

?

I just have this feeling that something good is going to come out of this mad season for us.
Agreed, I have this weird feeling we might actually win something this season. I've not had that feeling, well, ever.

Lots of redemption arcs coming up

Fantastic result and performance today. Special mentions for Royal who stuck to his task today with excellence and kudos to Hoijberg for his best performance this season. Great to see Harry get the plaudits he so deserves.

Akanji and Ake have been absolutely top draw this season. Stones as well to be fair.

All of the City centre backs would walk into our team.

Don't know if posted yet but we must have the best record of any side against a Pep team ever.

Spurs vs Man City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

✅ 18/19: Spurs 1-0 Man City
✅ 19/20: Spurs 2-0 Man City
✅ 20/21: Spurs 2-0 Man City
✅ 21/22: Spurs 1-0 Man City
✅ 22/23: Spurs 1-0 Man City
under 4 or 5 different managers??

Also learned today that even though we lost the two home games prior to the above, they were both at Wembley.

We won the last two home games against City at WHL: 4-1 in 15/16 and 2-0 in 16/17.

This of course means that we’ve won the last 7 games against City in N17 and have scored 13 consecutive goals without reply.

Unbelievable Jeff!

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it with the focus on Emerson, but I thought Perisic deserves some credit. Mahrez tore him apart second half at the Etihad, yet Perisic dealt with him well and got up the other end too.

Lets not get carried away now... yes I know it was a good performance but it was only Man City. Lets see what happens against the bottom teams :)

Think it was his inconsistencies when it came to booking our players and theirs. They got the penalty calls right of course, but City made a few cynical fouls and nothing was given.
We also had the drop ball farce where their player obstructed the ball (covered it with his body) stopping Kane and PEH from breaking away. Ref then wouldn’t let us contest the drop ball. Kane was not happy. The 1st half, after the goal, the ref made some very poor decisions

I've always thought that Guardiola is like the spoilt kid who must have literally everything he wants in the sweetshop.

I think this is part of the problem as to why he's not won the CL with them. Someone needs to tell him no more often, he and he must be told he must make do and mend.

The embarrassment of riches that he is thrown gives him licence to over complicate things and in a relentless pursuit of perfection which he will never achieve by trying to guild the lily he often doesn't see what he's already got as he's quick to throw newish toys out of the pram for brand new ones.

Brilliant records from yesterday's game from ESPNFC:
  • Tottenham have won all their games in their new stadium against Manchester City -- a run of five straight games -- without conceding a single goal. Pep Guardiola's side took 84 shots in that span. The run of five straight away losses is also Guardiola's worst against any opponent in his managerial career.
  • Manchester City suffered their fourth PL loss of the season, more than the three losses (two losses to us) they endured during the entirety of last season. It was the first time in six years that City lost three straight away games (all comps).

I genuinely didn’t think we would win today. Lovely surprise. And it was no smash and grab or good fortune. We were the better team. And what a way for Kane to get the record. The winning goal in a 1-0 win against the Champs.

They must hate playing us away.

They don’t even like us playing them up there - we lost to them in the CL - but still beat them.

Just want to say how great Dier and Davies were yesterday. Both get stupid amounts of flack because they’re considering the epitomy of Enic’s failure to invest but they were brilliant yesterday and are actually good players (yes I know). Davies in particular is a much better option than Lenglet imo.

Best performance of the season by a mile. Plenty of desire and aggression which is vital against a team like City but we used the ball well in possession; we seemed a lot more decisive, knowing when to carry the ball and when to pass.
We moved better as a unit and seeing Dier push into midfield (particularly to pick up Silva who was finding space behind the midfield two) worked so well and shouldn't be a one-off.

Plenty of very positive performances which have been mentioned in previous posts. I just want to see the same levels from the likes of Emerson, Dier, Davies & Hojbjerg in 'lesser' matches, starting next Saturday. It's all very well showing what you can do against City but beating them is worth as many points as beating Leicester.

Lenglet is a very good footballer but IMO is not suited to being a central defender in the PL. He doesn't have the bodily strength or the necessary commitment to be a success.
