OK not as bad as the coventry final in terms of a result but going to Inter with a 3-0 lead that should have been at least 5 and sit through 90 minutes of the inevitable slow creep into failure was awful imo
I was going to say. I have seen plenty worse.

worst game ive ever had to watch....... why did we have to make it so tough????
It's not the worst, the last 5-2 game or the 7-1 are ahead of that for me. Tonights game was up there with the most nervy though, if I'd measured the weight of my pants in every game I've watched over the years, I bet tonight they would have had one of the heaviest ammounts of excrement in them of all time.

Worth remembering that we were drawn to play Lyon, and probably Inter after that. We've knocked them both out.

Wasn't easy but we did it. COYS

AVB needs to grow a pair and drop some players. I really despair about Walker. He needs to be benched to see if he can think about and read the game. Parker should conserve his energy by staying in our half to protect the back four and track any runners trying to beat the high line. I am still seething about Defoe's greediness in the first game. He is a flat track bully and witless to boot.

Awful performance. I aged 10 years in 2 hours. We started with 2 strikers, Defoe and Ade, neither of whom made any difference ( Adebayors goal was a tap in after Moussa's effort). They had Cassano and Palacio who were both constantly dangerous. Why, when our strikers get the ball do we always think " He'll lose it " but when their strikers get the ball we are scared. Also our midfield were useless all night. Theirs played some great through balls. For us Holtby just kept kicking out at them and losing the ball. Livermore did a "Jenas". Parker tried to run through them but just doesn't have the speed. Moussa was average until he stepped up and made the goal. At the lane against Inter I thought we played as well as we have for years and made Inter look like a championship side. Tonight we looked like the championship side and, for a while, it looked like we didn't know how to score a goal

Quality first post. May there be many more like it.

Reminds me of Young Boys a few years back - that gave the squad a wake up and i hope this does too. Bale back for sunday and got to get back to winning ways!

Agreed. There are a lot of players new to the club this year and, whilst they have Euorpean and international experience it's not the same as getting to know your team mates when the chips are down. Let's hope they all learn from this, including AVB!

Just back from the game, I've been an inter season ticket holder for 2 years and that is the best I've seen them play. Spurs certainly put us through the ringer don't they! Adebayor, Parker and Naughton were especially bad tonight. Dembele was the reason we won, he was outstanding.

To be fair, Inter are better than we thought. We went there looking to get an early goal and we started well but didn't score. We did well not to implode straight away after letting in the first goal and we passed it well but once the second went in it was always going to be nervy. They did well to start off extra time with a higher tempo and we got a goal after big Jan and gallas missed open headers.

I'm not going to say anymore about the ref but I'm so glad that we are through despite him. I'm just glad my heart rate has started to slow down and the relief and excitement is setting in because we're in the quarters! :woot:

Inter were definitely better than the first leg, and we hoped they would just go though the motions. Maybe AVB thought that as well and that was the trap he fell into. As for the Ref, I just can't understand how he didn't give more free kicks, and a few more yellow cards against Inter. There were so many seemingly obvious fouls right in front of him. I just wonder how many of our players are now banned from the next game. :cautious:

I'm quite worried that this paired with the pool game + the mental and physical fatigue from 120 mins will have quite a detrimental effect on our squad going forward. It sometimes feels to me that tottenham often look for reasons as to why they are not quite a top 4 side, the last two matches some that feeling up. it's safe to say that the coming months will be our greatest test as a team in quite some time. Ether the team pulls together and fights or slumps into self doubt and implodes. We have it all to loose but that has never stopped us before. Time for AVB to stop dicking about and step up. I believe we can do it, the question now is do the squad feel the same way. COYS

Well done lads. Lyon and Inter knocked out. Job done. Have a rest and make sure you beat Fulham and get three points at the weekend. Side for the weekend:
Hugo
Walker, Dawson, Verts, BAE
Lennon, Dembele, Parker, Sigi
Bale,
Ade

I think Ade over Defoe but not 100% sure
