To be honest I don't think we've played a good away game in Europe this season. I think a large part of that has to be levelled at Friedel, we as a team have clearly changed tactics this year with the higher defending line, all defenders are more used to this but that is with Hugo in goal who at times almost plays as a sweeper! Friedel has not changed his game based on our change in tactics, very difficult at his age after playing for 20 plus years.
Could Friedel have done better for the goals? im not sure and even though the second goal was taken well I reckon Hugo racing out would have made the chance so much harder. This game reminded me of the start of the season when Hugo wasn't playing and we looked at sea in defence.
Very different team from our settled Premiership side and hopefully this won't derail our season, we're through - onwards and upwards. 3 points needed on Sunday and then a break to recoup, think a few players need it!

One dodgy performance and our whole world is going to crumble!!!! Some people need to grow a pair of bollox - we've been excellent of late. We've got a very real chance of winning this competition, and of course finishing at least fourth, possibly third.

I'm quite worried that this paired with the pool game + the mental and physical fatigue from 120 mins will have quite a detrimental effect on our squad going forward. It sometimes feels to me that tottenham often look for reasons as to why they are not quite a top 4 side, the last two matches some that feeling up. it's safe to say that the coming months will be our greatest test as a team in quite some time. Ether the team pulls together and fights or slumps into self doubt and implodes. We have it all to loose but that has never stopped us before. Time for AVB to stop dicking about and step up. I believe we can do it, the question now is do the squad feel the same way. COYS

We were a top 4 team last season, and we're 3rd now.

With your luck they'd probably be drawn away to Rubin Kazan - 700 miles EAST of Moscow!

Hang on a mo' that could be us. FECK! :nailbiting:
Cock. I forgot about them. Just said how pleased I was about the Russkies being turfed out in the Waffa League thread.

Goddamnit. They're exactly the team we'll be drawn against now.

Sorry, I deleted the post hoping no-one would see it. It's all my fault if we do sorry. I'll get my coat.

Nothing you could have done to stop it. They're still in it, we'll get them. The Chavs will get the easiest tie left. Just the way these things go when you're Spurs.

That's twice that we've got out of jail tonight in consecutive away legs, and we would be unable to complain had Inter put us out. All we had to do was to score once in normal time and the tie would have been over, but we never really looked capable of scoring.

As parklane-no1 says above, the change of keeper from Hugo to Brad makes a huge difference. Their different styles means that the back four and midfield have to change the way they defend for the Europa, and the ease with which Inter played through balls, and the freedom that the forward had to collect them, nearly cost us.

As for players, well what can you say about our front two. I didn't think anybody could play worse than Defoe tonight - and then Holtby came on and proved me wrong. Adebayor was almost beyond description. Although he held the ball up well on occasion, the fact that he is offside when Friedel clears it is unforgivable. Not once but several times. It is lazy and stupid, and should never happen. Plus if he had been on his toes, rather than standing and watching, he would have been on the end of the one good thing that Defoe did all game when he pulled it back from the right byline. It's also a mystery to me why for such a big man he fails to win - or even to properly contest - so many high balls. For all his undoubted ability, he has to be among the most frustrating players that I have ever seen.

A very, very disappointing performance - to put it kindly - and it is to be hoped that it is a blip and nothing more serious. At least Lennon came through apparently unscathed and Bale will be available at the weekend.

I got a "WTF" for suggesting AVB drops some players and BF is one I had in mind, purely because we operate as a good defensive unit with Lloris in goal. We have moved on and we need a stable back five for the rest of the season.

This does my head in. We finished in champs league place last year, but cos of bayern, who were probably in for lloris at the time, we missed out due to the jammy chavs. We will get third...I've no doubt.

Well, let's face it, we all learn more from our mistakes than from when we do things well. That being the case there is a shed load of lessons to be learnt from tonight. AVB is relatively new to the EPL, Chelski never really gave him a chance, but our players seem to have bought into his system / ideas. He has, apparently, said that the set up tonight was his mistake and full credit to him for the hands up, it was his mistake. All that said, despite what could well be our worst performance of the season, we still got through to the next round. Now we need the players to realise that we won despite playing badly, so we need to work harder and think more, and all will be well at the end of the season. Let's get behind the boys. COYS. (y)

You got a WTF because you said AVB should grow a pair. That is laughable.

Apparently there was racist chanting towards a number of our players. I think it may have affected the players, but it makes one wonder in amazement at what the likes of Laurie Cunningham put up with and still produced the goods. I've heard some people moan about Adebayor on Talkbollocks, but I think he and the team were mentally as well as physically exhausted. The only positive is that hopefully this will make us stronger, but it almost killed us.

Ah yes, BUT, if there's any justice Abramovic will get the chance to see some of the more rural parts of his own country. With any luck he'll get nicked for tax evasion! :D

The reason I said it is that he has bent over backwards to accommodate everyone and done it very well, but I think that some players should not be picked just to be fair, eg Friedel. For the record, I am a big fan of AVB and said so on 606. I also post a lot and don't usually slag us off, but I have to admit that I don't tolerate Defoe much.

Is it just me or does everyone person who doesn't post much come out to slag us off when we lose?

It's not just you. There are people, bewilderingly, who claim to support Spurs but can only summon up the energy to actually post negative comments for some reason. Boggling.
