You will not see the top 5 teams, IE City, United,Chelsea, Arse, and yes L/Pool, buy any of the players we are linked with

Man Utd - Michael Owen?
Man City - Patrick Vieira?
Arsenal - Jens Lehmann?
Liverpool - Joe Cole?

In the past 18 months all of the other top clubs except Chelsea have brought a similar player in terms of where they are in their career

Liverpool and Arsenal have also both been heavily linked with Scott Parker too

The premise of this and other hysterical threads is that we are going to sign Joe Cole. It doesn't look like we will- not that he isn't a good player and may not be an asset- maybe now chill out and wait to see who we do sign.

No? Ok. Carry on with the crisis management.

ps - Parker won the league with Chelsea and played in the champs league as well so he does have experience of the highest level.

No he didn't win the league with Chelsea.

He made 4 appearances in the 04/05 season which was the first league title win under Mourinho. Hardly a part of the league winning side.

Also in the CL has appeared in 9 games for Chelsea, again not massive amounts of CL experience. (Like Gomes, VDV and Gallas all have at 20 appearance in the CL.)

The whole winner and CL experience when describing Parker is fiction and not fact.

He was part of the squad that won the title - that is a fact, not fiction! He wasnt a regular no, but breaking a bone in his foot put him out for 3 months which is part of the reason. 9 games in the CL is also a fair amount - more than most of our players have played (we have only ever had 10 games in the CL proper!)

Yeah because when Parker walks through the door, our players are going to stand up and think "woah lads, he's won the league, going to step my game up now"

So he was part of the squad but was barely involved (whether it was through injury is immaterial in my opinion) so to claim he was a league winner after 1 start and 3 sub appearances barely counts towards experience of playing in a title winning side. As for the CL what does experience of the CL 7 years ago count in this day and age? The CL has moved on and changed in that time.

yeah 10 games as nidge says. In this case Parker doesnt deserve 1 tbh - but i read that Macheda didnt get one 2 seasons ago for united even though he scored a couple of vital goals in that season which gave them valuable points. Its an odd situation with medals as i saw that all the man utd squad (including players who hadnt made 1 appearance in the cl) were given runners up medals!

Gallas has also played(properly played, not been a hanger on like Parker) for two of the best sides in the country. Champions League year in year out and has over 80 caps for France(also captained them) Not comparable at all to Parker.

Because I read Ribble's post as trying to devalue Gallas' achievements by saying he's won little more than Parker.

Apologies to Ribble if I've read that wrong.

Not going down this route again but you know for a fact he wants/wanted to bring in Neville, Parker, Cole, Beckham etc. He's openly spoke of his love for them so it's not newspaper speculation. This is what he's done at his previous clubs, speak through the press to put pressure on the chairman and end up loading the club up with past it players on fat cat wages. Then move on when the financial situation isn't looking so good.

This isn't just me slagging him off, fans from other clubs see it too but you all want to brush it under the carpet.

I totally agree with you. I just hope levy puts his foot down.

Except for the fact that Arsenal and Barca are reported as being our main rivals in signing Leandro.

Or that Liverpool are also after Connor Wickham.

Nah, Gallas is an actual winner unlike Parker. He was also part of the defence that set a league record for minutes without conceding.

As far as I can tell, people are complaining because our manager wants to sign players that he thinks will improve our team...isn't that his job?

If Spurs sign a 32 year old striker this summer and he scores 20 goals next season to fire us into the Champions League, will people still be concerned that Redknapp is running our club into the ground? Based on previous instances (i.e. Gallas), I guess that our signings will ultimately be judged on whether they contribute positively to the team's performance, which seems pretty logical.

Whether we agree with the actual players signed is purely a matter of opinion, and whether they are the right players for us is something that can ultimately only be proved with time, but to blame the manager for Spurs signing players to improve the first team that will start the first match next season is beyond ridiculous.
