Is it important we buy in January?

We could do better than lapse prone Benny.

We have no quality back up for Ade nor Lennon.

And a quality central defender younger than Gallas n Leds would be good. Dawson n Bassong are not that.
.
This thread isn't about pointing out obvious weaknesses. People need to think about the reality of buying in January.

Chelsea spent 50m on Torres and in return Liverpool spent around 59m on Suarez and Carroll. None of these signings turned around their new clubs fortunes immediately.

When Redknapp first took over he needed to fill some obvious big holes. He bought a backup keeper and a defender as one injury in centre back would have floored us, Palacios filled our weak centre and Defoe and Keane were our goalscorers. It was necessary at the time but 4 out of the 5 soon found themselves out of favour as the summer window is usually the best time to buy.

People can criticise BAE but it won't be easy to find somebody who'll immediately be an improvement.

We have a good first team which is demonstrated by our current 3rd position. There's always room for improvement but don't underestimate our players, they're not as easily upgraded as some seem to think.

Our 2nd XI bears no resemblance to our 1st XI in formation the players individual style of play, lack of pace on the wings being the main thing as well as a striker capable of holding the ball up so I don't consider our squad that strong.

I remember for years the scum putting out youth teams in the League cup and smashing teams I think part of that is the system and style of play was the same as the 1st team, cotrast that to our performances in the Europa and I think it shows that our squad isn't as strong as is often claimed.

Apart from the CH's and Sandro for parker any injuries compromise our style of play as Lennon's injury has illustrated

That's the thing. For me we don't lack quality in depth, it's the fact that our backup isn't like for like.

If we buy backup for Adebayor then Zamora is probably our bets option in January if they are prepared to sell. Come the summer a considerably better striker might be available.

If the right player becomes available in January then great, but if not, I'd happily see us keep the same squad for the rest of the season. Not really interested in buying a stopgap with a 4 year contract.

we need to freshen things up again . lokked a tired performance but the likes of pav, bassong and pienaar offering nothing really so im all for getting replacements in.

a right sided midfield player ideally with pace.

a proper pacy striker

a center half

imo it should be in that order.

ben arfa would be a good signing to provide winger cover. he seems unhappy at newcastle and wouldnt be too expensive
