I think the Chelsea team was just disrespectful of the opposition, they didn't see the threat as such, less so from City, I wouldn't be surprised if Pellegrini fielded that team in the Premier League.

As for us, Poch is a **** for fielding that team.

I can honestly see why the FA Cup might become a lesser priority when we're still in Europe and in the League Cup semis. But were we out of one or both, the FA Cup would be every bit as important as the league for me.

And that being said, I'm still pissed off we went out like that.

No its not a Micky mouse cup, there have always been giant killings in the cup, my problem recently has been that they seem to have dried up and top teams seem to win it more, how many doubles have there been in the last thirty years compared to the previous seventy, thats when it is a Micky mouse cup, yesterday proves the opposite in my opinion.
As for the team yesterday, it was good enough to be better than Leicester for most of the game and we had to consider our semi final in four days time.

Yes like La Liga. Look how big Copa Del Rey still is. Why do we have two domestic cups?

It's Nature of the Cup. Was like that at all times.

I don't know how old you are but it simply wasn't like that at all times.
The FA Cup final was the most watched football match in the world with the exception of the world cup final. No way it was it a second rate competition.

That was a long time ago. We don't need two cups. There is far too much football already.

Magic for the lower but it seems a lot of the top teams are not that fussed. I mean look at the team we fielded! The fact Kaboul is playing says it all.
That team we fielded should have beaten them. Indeed we were beating them until the last 10 minutes.

I don't rate FA Cup a second rate competition at all. Quite opposite.
What I meant was at all times lower teams won against top teams . So I don't think the Cup has become Micky Mouse cup.
I am 12 years older than you.

So with Us, Chelsea and City out is it starting to show that a lot of the big teams just do not care for this competition anymore. I mean the Capital one cup has a semi final of 3 of the top 6-7, and an exciting Wembley final. Maybe the FA cup is starting to go obsolete. Thoughts anyone?

Also to add to the fact you can't find a legal or illegal broadcast of it anywhere so how can we support a cup we can't even watch?

Wow I'm 3 ratings off a full house!
It's only a Mickey Mouse cup, when you are knocked out.

I do think that in the past winning the FA Cup took you into a different European competition, the Cup Winners Cup. That competition was sudden death over 2 legs and it was exciting. Now it is all merged into the Europa League which you can get into in several other ways , takes way more matches and is flawed in its qualification system.

When the Cup Winners Cup was abolished part of the uniqueness of the FA Cup went with it. Of course there is history and all that but how many fans can remember the days before European Cups existed ?

Sorry if this point has already been made, I haven't read the entire thread.

That was a long time ago. We don't need two cups. There is far too much football already.
When they reduced the number of teams in our highest tier (I can't remember if it was Div 1 or Premier League at the time) the clubs were complaining that they weren't playing enough games and receipts were down.

Actually, rereading this it comes down to the same old reason, money. At the same times teams were complaining about gate receipts being down and there not being enough games the European trophies were knock out cups rather than leagues. We could keep both domestic trophies and make the European trophies knockouts again but the seven or so clubs who play in Europe year after year wouldn't like that so the other 85 clubs in the league (and gawd knows how many in non-league football) have to watch a cup with a glorious heritage become a bit part player.

So, here we go; positions one and two in the PL get a CL slot, FA Cup and League Cup winners get positions three and four, all European trophies return to being knockout cups again and fuck the money.

Daveeeeeed, are you listening?

I had a few minutes on my hands, so, just to emphasise how the CL Cartel has stitched things up since 1991:

1951-1970, 14 winners: Newcastle (3), Blackpool, WBA (2), City (2), Villa, Bolton, Forest, Wolves, Spurs (3), United, West Ham, Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea

1971-1990, 12 winners: Arsenal (2), Leeds, Sunderland, Liverpool (3), West Ham (2), Southampton, United (4), Ipswich, Spurs (2), Everton, Coventry, Wimbledon

1991-2010, 7 winners: Spurs, Liverpool (3), Arsenal (5), United (4), Everton, Chelsea (5), Portsmouth

2011-date, 4 winners: City, Chelsea, Wigan, Arsenal

I can't agree to that at all.

The FA Cup is special.
How old are you? Out of interest?

I do feel the level at which a fan holds the fa cup is often directly related to their age

Most fans of an age to have grown up purely in the champions league era have probably lost that affinity to the cup now - plus would never have seen us win it or even contest a final

Getting on towards 40...

And I agree with, which makes it even sadder.

Sorry mate I disagree with you there are a number of older fans who don't hold the FA cup in higher esteem any more at the same token their are younger fans who would love to win the FA cup. We don't have any affinity with the CL really, we've only been in it once in our history.
