he'll become just an average player just like Carrick.

Not being funny, double0, but yet again you've completely shown yourself up.

Carrick has been extraordinary for United in the last 3 months. The fans love him, he took time to bed down, but you couldn't be further from the truth if you call him average.

If he's average, then our entire squad is a pile of absolute dogshit.

Totally agree with the two posts above.

The thought of starting the season with Bent and Keanaldihno up front leaves me cold.

So true, Stoof. Last season so much of their play went through Carrick and they won the league. This season he is their most effective midfielder (obviously Ronaldo is a special case, but he's more of an attacker really). Average player? Watch a United game and focus on what Carrick really does without being too distracted by their more headline-grabbing players.

Erm, as much as I hate to disagree with Stoof (yeah right!) I think you have read the post incorrectly.

Carrick is an average player at United, simple as that. It just so happens that their average is a shit load higher than ours.

Berbatov would have to be in a fucking great team to be "average".

Both players are clearly not average players, but they both could be, if they were in good teams.

Some players play a team game, and they don't mind being average. Others like to be the best (big fish- small pond).

I disagree.

Whatever way double0 meant it, United fans and most other football people see what quality he brings to Manchester United. I see what you're saying, but he is no way average in a team with Fletcher, Brown, Gary Neville and an ailing Ryan Giggs.

I have a few Man U fans and they rate him as one of the best players in the team.

i'm surprised anyone would rate him as average, wether you mean as a player or a member of the man u squad.

Knocking Carrick is easy work if you don't watch him play for utd or understand what a gap he left when he went. We still haven't replaced him and him gone is ANOTHER reason we can't get a decent ball to Berbatov which is the MAIN reason he wants out. :bang::bang::bang:

You prove my point:

At United you have their worst players - which you have named (and included fletcher who hardly plays).

You have their Average players (Carrick fits in there)

And then you have the fucking amazing (at what they do) players - (Vidic- Ferdinand- Evra- Ronaldo(obviously)- Rooney - Tevez).

No doubt Carrick is a good player, but there he is average.

Firstly you can't own people, even if they are Man U fans.

Secondly, I watch them a lot, and I am surprised ANYONE thinks he is more than an average member of there first team. There are so many players in that team that are better than him, that he MUST be average.

Thirdly, that isn't putting him down, I just think Man U are fucking brilliant right now.

BTW - Anderson has been awesome when he has played.

A statistical error?

Utd Avg goals per(league) game (07/08)= 2.1

Utd Avg goals per (league) game with Carrick on field(07/08) = 2.6

That reasoning isn't exactly helpful, or accurate. I'd say they have their great players, their really good players and their good players.

And, to be honest, comparing players in different positions isn't helpful either.

Michael Carrick is an outstanding midfielder, in both relative United terms and in the wider picture.

One thing he is not, is average. At any stage. In any way.

Agree with Christophe, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we started to be more effective as a team when berba is gone. He's so much better than the rest of the team that inevitably almost all our play goes through him.

As I've said time and again, all that matters in this whole situation is that he isn't allowed to go to another Premiership side. I'd love to see him banging them in for Milan against Arsenal in next seasons CL.

I'd go with that.

Berb's is, probably along with Ronaldo, the most naturally talented player in the league. Any team would be delighted to have him. If he goes it will be a big blow but if we get a good amount of cash for him we could perhaps get one or two top players in key positions which would definately soften the blow, so it wouldnt be the end of the world...

As for Carrick... he is a fantastic player, anybody who thinks otherwise is just plain wrong! :p

The thing about the Webster rule is it will crash like a Tsunami through the world of football. We're not talking mere Bosman here we're talking about the very foundations on which football is run. If contracts can't be trusted and players can't be sold for fortunes, then clubs will go to the wall and players won't be employed at all. The really funny thing about the Webster rule is that if it is enacted it will in fairly short order mean player's wages are reduced. Clubs won't be able to afford them because they won't have any tangible assets beyond the fans and TV money. You might think the big clubs would be laughing all the way to the bank, but without competition they're stuffed. You may, I suppose, see a world league one day, with franchised players and teams etc. but that'll be the day the game dies in this country.

Anyway, I'm pretty certain the Webster rule is not as cut and dried as all that, I'm also certain that no one will want to be the first Judas and enact it. Agents aren't going to want it because there will be less going around for them and the clubs can simply make a pact in everyone's best interests (even Chelsea's), to not use it or not employ players who have.

On the Berbatov question, he won't go because no one will offer more the £18m which is about what a player with his temprament is worth. He's no Ronaldo or Torres and it's not because he hasn't the ability but because he hasn't the attitude. The only club who might possibly have a go is Milan but other than that I can't see any of the big boys wanting him.

Fed up of reading about Berbs' "attitude". People pay too much attention to his body language and not enough to his match winning contributions. And if he occasionally shows his frustration, who can blame him? You wait to see how much his "attitude" improves once he gets decent service in a team competing for major honours.

Milan, 5th in serie A, are increasingly looking like not being able to qualify for the Champions League next year.
I dunno if Berbs would go there for a UEFA Cup placement, despite Ronaldinho supposedly going there too.

Carrick has been Man U's most inform player besides Ronaldo and maybe Rio. He's world class in terms of form right now.

It would surprise me if Berbs went to Milan. They have Kaka, Gilardino, Gourcuff, Pato and Inzahgi (before you say he's shit or old just look at the current stats) and are likely to get Sheva and Ronaldinho in the summer. They have an abundance of talent a bit like Inter.

I'd expect him to go to a PL team like Chelsea or ManUtd; or to La Liga to Real or Barca. On the outside he might go to Juve but they are snffing around Amauri so unlikely.

I would like him to stay and sign an extension. Do a Keane and settle here.

Then our focus could be on getting a decent set of CMs, a LM, a GK and a CB.

Shit, we missed the boat big time when the Argies were "offered" to us. I know there were strings attached but Mascherano and Tevez would've both been bargins at 15mil each.
