The interview after the game was hilarious.

"I 100% knew this would happen again. I manifest things like this. Before the game, before I left my house, I thought, 'We're winning today and I'm scoring.' And I made it happen, which is good."

How did the interviewer resist asking the inevitable next question :)

Should get a ban for this.

Failure of refereeing that. I can understand the ref being off checking something else, but were the linesmen having a period of meditation with their eyes closed? Was VAR having a cup of tea?

Not to mention the Forest players.

Toney said after the game that he’s allowed to move the ball a yard either side. Would love to see if that’s actually in the laws of the game.

Moving the ball is one thing, it’s moving the foam as well which makes it look dodgy.

@cwy21 is it in the laws of the game? (I'm sure you're the ref?)

I used to be. Not sure if anything’s changed but I would have booked him for unsporting behaviour and made him take it again from the correct place. Unsure whether you can take retrospective action over a yellow card offence.

I was only half listening to his post-match interview, I thought I heard him say you're allowed to move the ball a yard left or right but I wasn't sure. Surely where the ref puts the foam is where the free kick is to be taken from, especially when it's within shooting distance and there's a wall involved. Shame on the Forest players for not kicking up a fuss about it though, several of them were watching him do it. And what do VAR do in situations like this, just sit back and put their feet up? The ref is occupied so the assistants and VAR etc should be vigilant to this sort of thing (and stuff like defenders kicking up a penalty spot between when a pen is awarded and when it's taken).

The funny thing is, the ref in that match was so pernickety about things being taken from the right place, throw ins and free kicks, he must have changed the position of them over 5 times to the point where it was only a few feet and he was still doing it, yet this one he misses...

I don't mind the moving of the ball as he's trying to change the angle to gain an advantage, but moving the foam is plain and simple cheating.

“It was a long time coming," Toney told Sky Sports. "I manifested this win when I was at home during the time I was out…

"I 100% knew this would happen again. I manifest things like this. Before the game, before I left my house, I thought, 'We're winning today and I'm scoring.' And I made it happen, which is good."

(what I don’t get is why hasn’t he manifested his big club move he’s been on about for years?)

Astonishing replies there attempting to defend it. Weird shit. Like the equivalencies people are drawing are one thing ("people dive every game!" etc) but the people saying it's not even cheating are fully off the deep end. What has this total assclown done to deserve such blind loyalty from non-Brentford fans?

Him saying he's in his rights to do it is a bit silly given the footage shows him doing it sneakily, when the wall was distracted.

If I’d spent 8 months willing something into existence I think I’d have created something better than a single win over Nottingham Forest.

When Brentford got promoted and he used the immediate post-match interview I think to make some snide passive-aggressive shot at his "haters", I was a little surprised I guess, but sure. His lack of humbleness is potentially a good thing - confidence is good, etc - but his response to his betting ban seems to be that he on some level blames other people, like he can't quite perceive that what has happened to him is his own fault, but he can't say that aloud.

If he’s allowed. Then fine.
If he’s not, then var should have picked it up. Il

personally don’t like it. Because it means the wall etc the goalkeeper has set is wrong and feels like cheating. But if you can do it, everyone should be doing it

The positioning of the ball is down to the ref. VAR don't get involved.

But the ref has already set his mark, Toney removes the mark and moves the ball while ref is adjusting the wall . If VAR should be used for anything it is things like this.

Saying that, the goalie should stil move his wall, but if he had already done that prior, it is cheating no matter what.

And if the ref had already positioned the ball and the player thought he could do a better job while his back was turned? Of course VAR should intervene if they saw it. I understand this is bordering on "common sense" and we know that's pretty alien to VAR sometimes but it's not like they'd be breaking one of their rules like stopping play after play had restarted (eg Liverpool's "offside" goal against us). It's just an extra pair of eyes to spot things the ref might've missed because his attention was elsewhere.

Sure. But moving the ball after the ref has provided the position and the defence has been set?

Totally agree. It's cheating end of. I guess VAR don't get involved because the assistant referee should see it?
