Can't imagine we'll go anywhere near him. Brentford are desperate to have rid of him now, burnt all bridges with that interview, and clearly trying to put out a bit of a come and get me plea to Arsenal and Liverpool.

Arsenal are the only club I think that would entertain signing him now.

It’s funny as we generally consider Brentford to be a well run team who scout sensibly.
we also view Thomas frank as a good manager and sound judge of character (some wanted him here)

and yet there’s huge concerns about Toney

Through all this Frank got him scoring goals for fun without any issues that affected the rest of the squad (this has only affected him as things stand)
He’s clearly not the sharpest tool in the box but despite this he performs in the pitch

I guess if we did our due diligence we’d have never signed gazza

🤷🏼‍♂️

Think Brentford basically believed he was so good he was worth the trouble, but that interview has change their mind hugely.

Any info that backs up that POV?
He’s obviously been a known issue for a while but they haven’t been offering him around over the last 12 months have they?

Yeah, happy to tell @Rob or @Archibald&Crooks the source.

No, for most of his time at Brentford, despite a "no dickheads" policy, they kinda saw Toney as the exception to the rule because of how good he is, but the Steven Bartlett interview has burned everything.

He's got a lot of issues and we've had various bits of ITK on his attitude. I think Trix has alluded to this publicly a few times recently as well.

We need a player like him.

Not sure who else out there fits the bill. Maybe Orban but he is young and unproven. Orban could take time to adapt and it could go either way. Toney is ready made proven PL goalscorer and I have no doubt he would score bags of goals in our team. Him and Maddison would be fantastic.

He does seem like a complete bellend - and his past behavioir is conerning - but if Ange feels he can get a tune out of him without disruption I would be all aboard.

If we are near the top come Jan and signed Toney I really think we could do something special.

After watching Ange in recent press conferences and interviews, he doesn’t come across as the type of guy that will tolerate any kind of poor behaviour and I don’t think he’d risk linking up with a known dickhead with potential behavioural issues.

No problem with this and thanks for confirming.
It’s always a bit strange when clubs make exceptions to the ‘no dickhead’ policy (seemingly when it suits them - ie when a player bangs in goal after goal)
FWIW I’ve no problem with us swerving him down d we think he’s trouble. But he is quality on the field

Have to agree if Ange really does want Toney then we should go get him.
I remember Fergie buying Eric Cantona who had a terrible reputation at the time. Fergie managed to tame him (apart from the odd kung fu kick!🥋) and Cantona became a key player.

Is there any info suggesting Ange wants him though?

Because this line of reasoning seems to be brought up in every single player thread now: if Ange wants him, get him. Which I don’t disagree with, but it’s not really a good argument unless we know that Ange actually wants him.

The other thing I keep seeing in this thread is comparisons to luminaries like Michael Jordan, Gascoigne and now Cantona. Maybe I am missing something here but are people really saying he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as this kind of talent?

Prior to that recent interview, I'd have welcomed the signing.

Talent alone, he's undoubtedly one of the best around. Sadly, I don't want us to sign players purely for ability. They have to fit into the squad as a person.

Knowing what we know now, I hope we leave well alone.

I know he scored 20 goals last year, but how many were penalty's. I get his penalty conversion rate is excellent, but I'm not convinced his game is at or will ever be at the level we demand.
