Brilliantly detailed piece in the Express about our interest in him. Hats off to the journalist:

That's 1 report I think is 100% believable.

I would be OK with us signing Butland but I wouldn't be sure about making him our first choice keeper straight away. I would be happy if we signed Butland and sent him out on loan to a Premier League club which can give him first team football for up to 1 season (if he looks up to the job in Jan he could be recalled) and in the mean time we give Friedel another season.

If we signed Butland I don't think it would be worthwhile to his development if he was just to come in as a 2nd choice.

For that kind of money I would try for ter Stegen. He's the same age, and a lot more experienced.

Look at this table done by Dimi_God on COYS

I'm not a big proponent of stats in footie and this one is another example. Midfieldesque stats for keepers is a first for me - at least 2 categories directly pertain to a keeper...

In short, IMO these stats speak more to the way Lucien Favre manages Gladbach and forms their style of play than strictly the performance of Stegen. Not sure why Stegen would leave a CL club that he excels in for Spurs though... I'm sure he's a wonderful keeper - never seen him play. (y)

EDIT: just found he's only played 29 games in the Bundesliga for his career

For them to get that much detail about the club's transfer plans there must be a mole - Levy won't be happy

He'll end up at Liverpool in a year for £25m, we'll all say how much we hate him and how shit he is as his promising young career goes down the drain, and he'll be sold to Sunderland for £4.5m 18 months later.

I rate this kid, we should snap him up now. This will be one that got away if we don't. I really think he will do well, reminds of joe hart a lot, very confident player, and commands his box as well as a good shot stopper. We can loan him back out if need be.

Haven't seen much of him, if he is as good as some suggest, get him.
As regards age, Casillas took his opportunity at a youthful 19 years.

Physically he is very similar to Hart but having watched Butland play for several years in the England youth teams he is far ahead of what Hart was at the same stage in his career. We don't need to loan him out, he's good enough already and better than any of our current goalkeepers. I'll be as gutted if Liverpool sign Butland from under our noses as I will be if Arsenal sign Sahin.
