They don't need the cash, so maybe they're happy to stick their heels in to set a precedent for other players, youth team or otherwise, who try to push for a move by acting up?

This is how I understand it.

If we agreed a fee then we wouldn't be including a sell-on clause.

If it went to tribunal then the fee would be set for us but would likely include mandatory sell-on clause.

Surely signing a player for 1 million but having a sell on clause would be worth it? Say we sold him for 80 million (unrealistic I know) they would only get 4 million of the 80. Would still be a brilliant deal for the club. Can't see that being the reason for us to turn down one of their best talents

I hope so. For a club like ours how many opportunities do you get to sign a player with potential like this?

I'm not saying we should be bent over a barrel but surely if he's keen we should be pushing through. My bet is we'll regret it if we don't

If he's half way decent then we insist on netting off the sell on clause when he's sold, and it only becomes an issue if he's a success. No big deal

City havent signed him on a pro contract as he is not 18 yet, so they cannot claim any sell on clause. If he joins us, it will be money set by tribunal

Perhaps that's right, but if it is in fact 5 per cent, then like others have said, assuming a 5m fee now it's only above 80m or so when it starts to matter.

It's not worth losing him over. Likely scenario is that if we don't get him now, we don't get him IMO
