So...he was tested 'in competition' and cocaine is a performance enhancing drug...that is a two year ban.

Silly sod...it would be 6 months if caught a few weeks later.

Career torpedoed.

It was a mistake. He did blow. Who cares? We've all done it once or twice. Its only a problem if he's addicted. Doing it once or twice is no big deal.
Absolutely outrageous statement mate. No way have we all done it once or twice, that's a ridiculous
generalisation

I've done it dozens of times

I've goto admit i feel quite sorry for Steve Bruce now. He's not had it easy trying to deal with the name change and now this.

What a bellend! Why would you BLOW your career like that!

Your right, I take it he was tested after a game, if that's the case it's even worse. We all make mistakes and I hope it does not ruin his career and he sorts himself out. If of course the test is a balls up I feel really sorry for him.

Agreed, I actually really hope his sample comes out negative as I think it's a total bloody waste. But if he has done this then he is an absolute fool, I have done many things I should not have in my time but if I had the chance to be a professional footballer or any athlete to be honest I would never have risked it like that. You are one of very few who are given such an amazing chance to do what you love.

Jermaine Jenas on MOTD alluded to Livermore suffering personal tragedy in the past year.

Not that it excuses him taking cocaine.

Feel really sorry for the lad.
I know it can't be condoned, especially as he's a role model & in the public eye & will get slaughtered by the ever so righteous press.
However there are other footballers (not to mention others outside the game) who have done far worse & got away with it or were able to resume their careers. So I'd hope for a little perpective.
I hope the lad is allowed to learn from his mistake & resume his career for many years to come.

Why? Who cares if others have got away with it?

He's paid a massive amount of money to do a relatively easy job (especially in his case, where he's remarkably untalented). The expectation is that he keeps himself fit, so regular training, a healthy diet, no smoking, and little to no alcohol is the standard. Not a bad pay off when weighted against thousands of pounds a month.

Instead, he's outdone himself by getting caught taking drugs. Fuck the fatty foods, fags, and booze...let's indulge in the hard stuff!

Fuck the ungrateful moron. I hope his career is finished.

Well we've all done it once, twice or 15 times

To be fair I've never taken cocaine. I've had mates who did it around me, but it never interested me.

Each to their own, but there's something a bit odd about needing to take highly addictive and expensive drugs just to enjoy a night out with your mates (or worse, live your life) imo. To do it as a professional athlete is much higher up on the moron scale - plenty of sensible people would do anything to have the chance to enjoy playing football for a living, never mind in the Premier League.

I doubt he'll get off lightly - to punish him severely will be far too tempting for the FA to set an example, and to good effect too no doubt.

I just think the lad has made mistake alright a pretty big one. However he hasn't killed anyone or harmed anyone.
I'm sure he's very aware of the missive cluster fuck he's created

I wouldn't go so far as to say I hope his career is over, but he should and likely will be made an example of.

It's a shame that he's the first to be made an example of in this way though, considering there are players for "Top 4" teams who've allegedly been caught out by drug testing, who haven't had such a public outing. The only one that I can think of that did fall foul was Rio, and that was just for skipping the test.
