A lot will depend on where we are in January. If we win every single game (could happen) then our targets will be geared towards making a push to europe, where as if we are still in the fight to avoid relegation (more likely) our targets will be scrappers and prem proven to provide instant impact. Cana seems to be a good shout, and I wouldn't mind seeing a bid for Kenwyne Jones tabled in January.

Diarra or De Le Red

Defoe or Arshavin... If we sign both of these it'll give us a real dilemma as can diarra, modric and arshavin all be in the same midfield? i'd say probably not unless we are playing a sunday team of midgets or maybe the smurfs

I doubt Portsmouth will want to sell any players to us unless they have to, i.e. if we offer them crazy money. I think Redknapp has more nouse than to just go for the same players over and over. I expect him to look at our squad in depth over the next few weeks figure out how he wants us to play and then go out and get functional players that can fill in the gaps, rather than stars.

Can't really understand all this love for Portsmouth players, yes Redknapp has come from Portsmouth, and yes they have performed reasonably well, and yes maybe they could do a job this year and improve our team, but other than Krancjar (who i dont think we actually need) are any of them really top quality.

Defoe is really a prime example, is a good finisher, and would certainly without doubt improve our team at this present time, but i don't believe for one minute that any team that wants to challenge for the PL or CL places would do that with Defoe. Very similar in this context to Bent in that yes he will get goals, but his alround play is not good enough in the context of the team.

Diarra again would be an improvement on what we have (nothing), but again in terms of the players we have at the club already i.e. Modric, Bentley, Lennon, dos santos etc we need someone who will blend with these players, possibly with height to counteract the small players we already have and this is not diarra.

Yes we need to get out of the mess we are currently in, and maybe some short term players will be required, but once survival is achieved, progressions will again be on the agenda, and i do not believe this is achievable if we look at mid table players as the answer.

Diarra would be the first name on my list.

Others would be Huntelaar, Defoe, Parker or de Jong (if no Diarra), Morrison (from Boro - bit random I know).

Lets wait and see how he gets us playing first. Then we can see who would benefit us. I do think Diarra should be top of the list of old Pompey players though. I think he would instantly help us out and would make us more solid in the middle and defence. However as I said I would like to see how Redknapp gets us playing before I start writing up a dream team of new signings.

I agree; Diarra that's it for me the rest are only good enough cause whats gone here not that they are good enough....If you get what I mean.

It'll be interesting to see where we are in the league come January 1st as that will have a bearing on some of our signings.

Harry (or Clive) picked a 4-4-1-1 formation against Bolton which I think we will use from now until January with hopefully the same player combination although I can see Bale being used on the left instead of O'Hara to mirror Bentley.

We know we need a DM so Diarra who is proven in the Prem would be top of my list. A LB to improve upon BAE would also come fairly high up so the rumours of Bridge may not be too far off the mark. A CB so Distin or Upson.

Depending on how we are doing come January 1st, we may look at switching to a 4-4-2, which will mean another ST such as Defoe. I think any deal for Arshavin will be dead now.

The other player I've seen us linked with this morning is Robert Green which would suggest Harry doesn't rate Gomes

Im glad Boateng and Ghaly are being given fresh starts. Boateng is a huge talent, who failed to impress last season, but let us face it, many talents have failed to impress in the last season and a bit. Give him a fresh start and lets see.

Ghaly strikes me as an Eto'o type character, not in talent, but in attitude. He is like a ticking timebomb, but he hates it when he plays badly, and like it or not, on the pitch he will always give it his all. They are both strong players capable of adding a physical side to a midfield that Redknapp himself said needed it.

Taarabt, Rocha and Stalteri are all useful squad players to have, not starters but as backups, they are better than having no one at all.

I think our squad already looks better with the 'exiles' being brought back in to the fold. Lets see how Harry rates them, and you never know thewy could fill alot of the gaps we are looking to buy players in to fill. It is too soon to talk about January just yet.

Can someone explain the advantage of Upson to me and how he would be in front of Corluka, Woodgate and King? When is on form and next to Ledders, Dawson is as good for me.

It is correct to give the exiles numbers, but this is really just a way of expanding our squad before the window opens, whilst letting the new manager review them.

Quite frankly non of the players are really gonna add much to our team, especially on past perfromances and the players that we already have.

Taarabt is certainly not a player for our current circumstances, but has some potential if this can be developed (no sign yet).

Boateng has looked generally woeful in a spurs shirt, not sure that he is gonna make it in the PL, suspect it was right to try and get rid while he still had some value.

Ghaly is a poor player, and will add nothing to the team more than o'hara or even zokora does, so again unless we have a major injury list then just don't see it.

Stalteri, doesn't match up to Hutton, Corluka or even Gunter so other than to cover a major injury list, will not be seen.

Rocha may be of some use in terms of the Eufa cup, if we have registered him, if we assume king may not play, and that Corluka is cup tied, but again on past performances, not convinced he is much better than Dawson.

Certainly don't really agree that our squad looks better, we may have a few more players, but i calss better in terms of being improved, and a few players that we really need to be scraping the barrel to play does not in my opinion mean improvement.

Kenwyne Jones, Diarra and a left midfielder/winger

Thats a good shout, Kenwyne looks a quality player to me, I'm a bit miffed that we didn't take a punt on Cisse, he played really well against Newcastle, scored the goal and hit the post late on with a lovely effort.

But anyway, full agree with Kushal, tho would be happy to see O'Hara/Bale and Gio compete for the LW spot, I think if Gio was starting every week he'd only get better and better.
