What do you guys see in him!? god he's been awful today in my opinion

He's quality. Open your eyes and look at the work he does for the good of the team and look at the drive and energy he brings us.

Probably doesn't look great on a 24' TV screen. Watch him live and you might appreciate what he brings to us.

MOTM today was Zokora for being on the bench all game.

I haven't read through the posts on Jenas because I know the kind of things that will be written about him, I maintain he is the most unfairly treated Spurs player I have ever seen by Spurs fans.

I mean, week in week out he works his socks off, he runs runs and runs, he covers and gets stuck in and you'll never hear him moaning at all. This alone deserves the full support from every fan.

Today, he didn't have the best of games but his effort as ever was excellent and some of the abuse levelled at him from 'fans' near me was disgraceful.

Agreed. I think also the fact that today we played 2 wingers and the Hudd, the amount of covering, harassing and pressing he got through was impressive and pretty much did a 2 man job. On the ball not so good but he put in a good shift.

I think that people who slate JJ all game really don't understand football at all.
'he's shit...' Yeah... right.

As has been said above - one of the best athletes in the prem, amazing workrate. Just every other game he seems to put the wrong boots on and cannot pass or shoot or control the ball with any kind of consistency. Correct boots, he is a game winner.

Yeah, by no means his best game, Bentley wasn't great either and Bent was anonymous most of the game... But I'm willing to write it off as we still won convincingly (at least with the overall performance if not the scoreline)

But hey, we won and kept a clean sheet with 3 important players having an off day... Given how we were playing at the start of the season I'm delighted with that...

Wow we have some scarily negative fans! I'm very disappointed by Bentley on the whole this season, but didn't think he was as bad today as in some other games. His dead ball delivery was generally good and should have brought us at least two more goals. He seems to over hit long passes in open play, but contributed hard work throughout. As for Jenas, he wasn't great, but put in a decent enough shift. He was putting us into decent positions but failing to play the final ball effectively. On another day.....

I think some are too quick to judge overall performance on one game, or even a few poor touches or passes within a game. Jenas has been playing at an acceptable but unspectacular standard recently, and certainly does not deserve some of the knee jerk criticism voiced in this thread.

I'd agree with this. Jenas has put in some amazing performances for us, there are periods where he has dominated games and put in fantastic performances, and then there are games where he self-destructs and, while he still keeps his running and workrate up, everything else is completely lacking. I might even say the same of Zokora, but I feel Jenas has put in some better performances than Zokora has.

Jenas didn't have a great game, he gave possession away on endless occasions and looked a little lost once he got into their third. He did work incredibly hard for 1st to 90th minute and was constantly closing their players down. I'm interested that Hudd played ahead of JJ today, I'd have thought it would be the other way around

well we didn't have Modric so you have to put Hudd a little further forward to pull the strings.

It wasn't a knock, just an observation. I'd pictured Hudd in the Carrick role, sat infront of the defence and controlling the game, but he was pushed further forward, at times, playing that Modric role. Was good to see.

bentley/jenas/hudd/zokora
all far too on and off throughout the season, no consistency for my liking.

At least some people have common sense.

JJ is the type of player that you will realise is a massive asset to us when he is not in the team. Our best form always co-incides with his inclusion, infact I cant remember times in which he had a spell out of team and we did reasonably well.

He is a solid player, and although people bang on about his inconistency, he isnt the type that will have a game that is 4/10, or be at major fault for any goals conceded.

We moan about the likes of Gomes, KPB, Zokora, BAE, etc.. because they do stupid things that gift goals, but JJ rarely does that.

Ok he might not be the 8/10 he CAN be every week, but neither is he ever 4-5/10 week in and out.

His drive and energy is something that is needed in every team...and id much rather have his energetic self then that of didier zokora.

I could also swear he has more assists and goals then the likes of his superior counterparts fabregas, carrick, alonso and a few others.

Give the lad a break, he isn't doing anywhere near as bad, as some people make out.

The Jenas-knockers do have the awkward problem of explaining away the fact that we seem to do altogether better when he's on the field—he is, after all, the most effective ball-winner of our regular CMs, by a country mile (something he's improved on this season), and his passing accuracy is excellent. The fact that he's deeply frustrating at times—you feel there's a really top-class CM struggling to get out—does not mean that he's crap. He had a somewhat sub-par performance today—not the shocker that some would have you believe.

I noticed today that he often tended to go for the safe sideways pass instead of a more offensive but riskier alternative—a lack of self-belief? Of imagination?

I have seen Fabregas,Gerrard,Scholes and Ronaldo have worse games than Jenas did today.
Stop your bitching and give OUR PLAYERS a break!
The team played pretty poorly today and we still managed to get 3 very much needed points!

Fuck me, so just because he's a spurs player he's not allowed to be criticised? You say he's got a great engine? Well is that all it takes to be a premier league player these days? I can run around for ninety minutes, give the ball to the other team each time I attempt a pass and run with the ball blindly, someone gonna pay me 50 grand a week? I used to really like him, a few seasons back, but lately I just don't think he cuts it....disagree with me if you like, thats your prerogative, but personally, I don't rate him. There I've had my rant, lock this if needs be

Criticism's fine—but too many people confuse a balanced appraisal (which is what criticism should be) with slagging off.

I would like to try to defend myself from the accusations against the Jenas-bashers in the ratings thread, although I really like him I didn't think he had a great game today.

His forward passes didn't connect at all, when he won the ball in a good position he nearly always ran straight into trouble when he had several passing options (and often just walked back when Blackburn countered, leaving the midfield wide open), he got stuck in pretty well sometimes but other times he didn't and Blackburn just walked straight through. I've seen him do so much better before and therefore I was a bit disappointed.

Or just playing to his strengths and leaving the 70 yard cross-field hits to Bentley and Huddlestone.
