What do you guys see in him!?

He helps us regain possession, he is good at retaining possession, he creates opportunities for us to score goals and he scores a few goals himself.

 god he's been awful today in my opinion

It wasn't his greatest game, but he was defensively solid and kept our still somewhat dysfunctional midfield ticking.

Not one of our players was awful today. Our performance was by no means perfect, but with better finishing it could have easily been 3:0.

I agree Bentely was bad but Jenas was awful, when was the last time he passed to a white shirt - oh Fulham last week:oops:

Jenas has been here a few years and apart from a couple of goals against the goons and a really good game against Derby he has been awful on the whole.

You honestly think we got 5th two seasons running and won the CC last year DESPITE having Jenas?

You wrote the forbidden Eek

But.....so true. I can add another game where he was very good....awsome really. Man City in the League Cup last year......but other than that. Not much of a footballer really.

Isn't it weird that no other team in the Premiership/Europe have an interest in him. If he were that good that people here think there should be some interest...shouldn't it?? (Not trying to be funny!)

even capello slapped himself about a bit and stopped picking jenas.

though, much like zokora, jenas is always a useful tool because of his energy levels and they can play/ cover many positions .

SS57 i think dreadful actually sums up his performance, every run he made produced nothing, his tackling left alot to be desired, he got himself booked somewhat stupidly and his link play and general application of himself to the game wasn't anything like he is capable of... I'd say thats more dreadful then sub-par

Jenas didnt do too badly at all. He dribbled into the box, tackled well at times and his passing was ok.

I'm just amazed that you can start a thread about Jenas when Bentley was so, so, so terrible today.

You obviously weren't watching the same match. Ok Bentley was pretty woeful but if you just watch Jenas for a bit you will see that apart from not being able to pass the ball forward, or tackle, you will see that he is lazy. He doesn't get forward enough to support the strikers and when rolling around on the floor after being tackled jogs back, with no urgency whatsoever in trying to get back in the game. It's just unreal. How can this guy consistantly get in the team when he brings absolutely nothing to it? An absolute waste of space and the sooner he is replaced the better as far as I'm concernered.

Lazy? :duh:

I've actually heard it all now.

I would prefer a Carrick to a Viera (they are/were both superb holding midfielders). Unfortunately they have few peers and those that exist are unlikely to be coming to WHL until we can consistently offer CL games, and we won't be consistenly playing CL games until we have a Carrick or Viera. Let's hope Levy/Rednapp can find a way out of this dilemma.

I think we already have players in the Carrick mould so to speak. Certainly in the technical ability side of things like Huddlestone, Corluka and Modric. But we really need a battler in midfield who wont go missing and who will scrap for the ball. Carrick was great for us but you cant forget that we had the likes of Davids and Tainio aswell, who made us more resilient in games where we weren't allowed space on the ball.

as i said. Watch him for a bit. You won't see him breaking his neck to get back behind the ball after giving it away via a crap pass or being tackled.

Well i can honestly say that Jenas often works very hard to get back at the ball, and maybe too hard sometimes in fact, because he often gives away a free kick as a result. But i dont have the luxury of watching every game, so i could be missing quiete a bit of his overall play. But i wouldn't say he is lazy. I certainly wouldn't blame him for not pushing up to support the strikers yesterday either. Huddlestone isn't really a defensive midfielder, so Jenas had to defend a lot more and be more mature in his play yesterday. It was actually Huddlestone who was pushing higher up he pitch, so Jenas had to be the deepest central midfielder.

I always watch him very closely, and my seat in the east upper is perfect for seeing the work he puts in which few seem to notice.

Yesterday I watched him break his neck to get back a few times, but he didn;t need to much because a) Blackburn were awful and b) he was playing a slightly deeper role.

What I saw was him close down, hassle and harry them which worked as they gave the ball away so much. He also got stupidly booked and failed to really make use of the ball when he had it as much as we know he can do.

To say he's lazy defies belief, the amount of goals/chances I've seen him prevent by bursting a blood vessel to get back, usually because Zokora's gone walkabouts, is amazing.

All I can do is point you towards the fact that several highly regarded managers continue to pick him, when he picks up an injury our form and midfield fluency suddenly vanishes and that his signing also coincided with the most successful period in our recent history.

well we will have to agree to disagree here then. I too sit high n the east stand and cannot recall a game when I have thought that he needs a massive kick up the ass to get back and help the defenders out of a situation he has caused by giving the ball away.

I do agree with the ShelfSide18, start of the match was giving him some verbal for some bad passes and runs into a brick wall, but he does work hard...when Hudd is banging in passes on a sixpence you dont see somtimes whats happening off the ball as much and Jenas was running his socks off.
He is an Enigma, but i think if hes not on his game he can still hassel/harrie and make himself a nuisance, for ME id prefer a midfield with him in than one without.

True he does sometimes have those frustrating games where he surrenders position too easily - yesterday in fact. I think he didn't hare it back once yesterday because he took a knock - but from what I see he is rarely ever lazy.

But Ok, agree to disagree. Unfortunately for you Harry agrees with me!

"fluency" :shifty:

Our midfield was brilliant during long spells when he was injured recently. Quick, smooth passing and players (Modric, Huddlestone) with splitvision could get their ideas to work very good! It was even beautiful sometimes..

I'd rather Jenas running into brick walls than Zokora!

If he could only lift his 'on the ball' game to 8/10s more regularly than his 6-7s we'd have a really excellent midfielder. Off the ball he is always useful and so under appreciated just has to cut out those frustrating games and games where you wish he'd be more dynamic and grab the game by the nutsack.

I really think if the fans gave him a bit more recognition, hell even sing a song about him we'd see that happen.

He was being wound up by the midfield. When you think about it, he did negate the opposition midfield, he just looked indecisive on the ball.

I was more getting at previous seasons when we played 442.

We'll put those few games you point out down to Harry!

I still maintain we are a much better team with JJ playing than without.
