Personally I think this could be smart man management by Ramos. He knows Defoe wants to stay, as that’s all he keeps saying, but he isn't signing that contract.
Basically Ramos is saying look you can stay but we're willing to sell you if you don't sign a contract soon. This puts Defoe under pressure as the club is now seen as willing to sell a top player and if Defoe really wants to stay he will sign a new contract. I doubt Jol would of said something like this and would of been begging Defoe to stay in the papers etc this then means the ball is in Defoe's court and he can ask for whatever he wants...
