I like Defoe, I really do. However, he must realise that unless you are TOP TOP quality, no-one is guarenteed a place, regardless of form. he has to work and show he is committed.

His current form is excellent, keep this up and he wont have a problem. Sign the bloody contract or risk becoming another Sol Campbell - hate figure. Dont hold us to ransom.

If Defoe left on a free I wouldnt hate him cause I can see hes been treated like shit more than anyother striker in the past years at spurs.

Ah well good luck to the lad what ever he decides too do

his like an ex girlfriend. You don't really want her (in this case defoe) but you don't want anyone else to have her

I think Defeo is a good player and am beginning to think he genuinly likes the club. His been here for 3 years. He is a good player but the villa game really did sum it up for me

He was so quiet for the whole game up until he scored. I know he scored which was obviously good but Ramos would have wanted more from him during the game interms of movement and link up ect

That is why he constantly picks Keane and Berbatov ahead of him and even Bent because of their movement. But we all know that whatever premiership club he goas to he will score 12-15 league goals if he plays regularly

Its a difficult situation. A compramise could be for him to sign a new and improved 4 year deal with a clause stating that if he doesn't start x amount of games in 2008/9 he will be entiled to leave for x amount of money. If Defoe loves the club that much he would agree to that

Defoe if he has carried on like this should either sign or go!

He is making a mockery of the club otherwise!

If Ramos has told Defoe he can leave then he's a aint a clue. He's way better than Bent and Defoe scores more goals from comming of the bench than most premiership strikers.

The guys been treating like shit by this club and he still wants to stay. Spurs is falling apart, instead of tellin defoe he can go tell the ones who aint pulling there weight they can go.

Obviously, Jol didn't have a clue either, as he didn't play JD. And yes, he does get goals coming of the bench, so let's leave it that way, coming off the bench!.

Spurs aren't falling apart any more than they ever have. The wonderful thing about our great club is that they are always in transition. This is just a continuation of that......

Who isn't pulling their weight?

Fair play.

I like Defoe and want him to stay. But i dont know how the thinks he can command a regular starting place? Berba has to be first choice, and personally i would prefer RK to play alongside him.

The club has to take this stance, they need to play hardball. They are not prepared to sit around whilst Defoe doesnt sign a new contract. It will, in the end, cost the club millions to do so. By comimg out and saying this this puts pressure on Defoe to sign a deal or else look for another club.

No one wants to lose defoe but unforunately, as so many of you are keen to point out, football is a business now and its not exactly about what we would like but about what makes sense financially.

What a stupid comment.

How has he been treated like shit??:roll: - because he cant command a starting place?

Ah well, he is not good enough, end off. I am sure his 25k a week wages should be a sweetner to his hurt feelings.

At the end of the day he needs to make a decision, sign or go. The time has come to make that decision, all the club are doing now is applying pressure - they have been forced to do so as Defoe is faffing about and stalling over a deal.

Oh yeah, and i would feel too sorry for him..........running away and selling his story to the sun.......pathetic.

"The manager has said I can leave if I want but I want to prove him wrong," said Defoe. "I want to stay here.

So he wants to prove that he can't leave even if he wants to. He may have to take up mime and pretend he is stuck in a box!

Even if Ramos is less than impressed with Defoe's involvement in link up play during matches, and has therefore opted to keep him on the bench and bring him on for the last part of games to make an impact - he has been doing that and has been scoring!

Why be so quick to get rid of him? Hopefully this is a scare tactic into getting him to sign a new contract. I'd hate to see him go.

good news on defoe - shows some loyalty to our great club and also some hunger, this boys attitude has been second to none!

That's what New Labour call "spin". Defoe decides to run down his contract is good news? Shows loyalty? - by not signing a contract? WTF?

At least our record 16.5mill signing will now get a place on bench. Be interesting to see wether JD is on the bench tomorrow night. No way can he be allowed to run down his contract. Be a shame if he does leave but maybe it is time for him to move on

Just to clarify, pablo is a journalist and the story in today's Sun is his story. So don't look at it as confirmation from a different source.

BEN is saying on FTL there is a whole lot more that he wishes he could say and hopes to do so in a couple of weeks.

Jermaine was burned before at Wet Spam, if he does go it seems like he is desperate to make it known that he loves the club and wants to stay...then if he does leave it will be because he isnt PLAYING FOOTBALL.

It seems clear to me what Defoe is saying. He has not signed, He will not leave because He "loves it here" and no player would stay if they were left on the bench all the time actually means "I will wait till my contract runs down and get myself a massive pay day, I will keep the fans on my side by telling them I love the club and then just like Sol I will give the fans the finger and walk." The club is powerless to do anything about it.

That's exactly how I'm seeing it too. And to be honest I can see it from both perspectives. As a player he's looking after himself. As a club, they are trying to force the issue one way or the other.
