Paper speculation rather than from the boss himself I would've thought... Seems unlikely we'd let him go, at least until there were a few more strikers on the books...
Depends when the offers come in and how good they are, if someone offers great money for him but are looking at other options we may well let him go so as not to have them go elsewhere even if we haven't brought in replacements before hand

I don't disagree. £10m however staggered would be a pretty reasonable return. Given that's he's offside. All. of. the. time.

I love the guy, he is gives it his all when he plays, and can score some cracking goals, but he is to weak at certain things, staying onside being the main area.

If he was happy to play as an impact sub then I would keep him for good, like a solskaer role. But if he wants minutes we need to bite the bullet and replace him with someone better, someone with more nouse. He just has never quite lived up to his capabilities. Shame for him and us

Time for us to let him go. I'd be surprised if no-one is interested, he's as good a striker as there is for any mid-table premier league side. I'm hoping someone like Sunderland or QPR with their mega bucks will put in a £10+ million bid for him. I think £7million+ would be a good deal, given his age.

It would be a HUGE mistake to sell JD, just like it was the last time we sold him.

Everyone knows that AVB likes to employ a rotation policy and with Europa league games as well there will be plenty for JD to get his teeth into. There aren't many strikers in the league with his finishing ability from inside and outside the box. He creates his own goals, doesn't rely on service and loves the club.

If we get Ade back then having JD is important along with one other. Kane probably isn't ready yet and so shouldn't be relied on as anything more than 4th choice.

well, he's our only striker currently under contract for 2012/2013 (if you ignore GDS) - I hope he doesnt leave just yet.

I thought the mistake was buying him and Keane back.

Keane - yes, Defoe - no way. Keane played his part from Jan until May that season with his leadership but that was it. Defoe has been scoring key goals for us since then and is a Spurs legend whichever way you spin it. I love the kid and I always will.

I dont see him going as I cant see us getting Ade +2.

Mind I cant see us needing or using 3 main strikers. Ade + 1 will do fine with Kane in the wings maybe

I completely understand him wanting to leave, he's kept stum all year about being on the bench unlike some players and when he's come on he's always put a shift in and had a great return last year. He's WAY to good for Reading for Christs sake, he just doesn't fit our style of play but he's still a lethal striker. Christ, he'd stroll into the Liverpool side and dare I say the Arsenal starting 11.

He gets a lot of shit on here for someone who clearly loves spurs, he cried apparently when we flogged him to Portsmouth. He's a bit of a legend really... It's a real shame he never quite managed to find those few missing pieces to his game, raw talent wise he had/has it all.

Couldn't agree more. Even if we get Adebayor in we'll still only have two strikers good enough to play league games, and since AVB seems quite interested in competing in the cups as well that leaves us thin up front.

Defoe is a great guy to have around the club, and as we saw last season he has some goals in him too. Maybe AVB can teach him the offside rules. At the same time make sure he does not get finishing training from Steffen Freund.

I love wee Defoe to but its honestly time for him to move on - its best for all parties.

We'll be playing another way under AVB and Defoe isn't the man to lead the line on his own. He's approaching 30 and this will be the last time that we'll be able to command a decent price for him. His stock is pretty high right now with a good goals/per min ratio from last season and I'm sure he'll want to play regularly entering the final phase of his career at the top flight.

He can only play in 442 and I doubt that we'll be seeing much of 442 next year.
Any striker comming to Spurs has to answer with yes to at least one of the next two qustions:
- can you play as lone striker
- can you play as winger-striker
Defoe can't answer with yes to either of this questions.

Fuckwit Ramos drove JD out, but times have changed.

Yes, everyone knows AVB employs a rotation policy. However, he's not known for playing a 4-4-2, which is the only system that JD really fits. We'd be mad to ship him out without having a replacement signed or at least lined up, but I would be astounded if he's still a Spur at the end of the window.

You have a very liberal definition of legend. Good striker promised much but never truly great. Otherwise he would not have been substitute for every manager.
