Keep him, looked sharp coming off the bench against tired defenders and did very well on UEL game. Well, he quite often does with 18 goals in 31 European games for us.
Agree with all this. But it may be the case (as has been suggested) that we have to shift 1 or 2 strikers before we can bring in a new one. In which case, I'd be ok with that.

But I don't see a point in new one, it's not like anyone really good is willing to come as understudy to Soldado. So if our options are at best on level with Defoe, why not keep him?

I hear what you're saying. Personally though, if possible, I'd rather a young striker with bags of potential. What's Defoe got, another 1 or 2 seasons left in him maybe? Whereas at the moment he still has a resale value.

Totally agree. How old is he? 30/31?

Thing is we're coming to a point where the only player we'd be allowed to replace Defoe with is another english one.
Especially if we're thinking of the UEFA squad. I'd keep him as a UEFA and impact sub striker, unless something really silly comes in for him (£10m crazy stuff). Defoe is a support net for us if everything else fails (new striker doesn't settle or get injured), Defoe is tried and tested. We're better off with him in the squad, and I don't think we really need the money he'd fetch

Rumours of Defoe to WBA are gathering pace. Surely this means one incoming transfer is pending.

Or we can't shift Ade.

Think we were determined to shift one this summer, and one in Jan or next summer - with younger more versatile replacements.

Dubious whether Defoe would get enough minutes to make the plane to Brazil.

Defoe is the better guy, and better professional.

Ade the better player - IF he knuckles down.

Adebayor refusing to go, can see Defoe moving on to get game time in a WC year, A.N.Other on the way in. Still can see Damiao being a Levytime special, too much groundwork has been made on that deal in the past for it not to be revisited if you ask me.

I'm sorry but I just disagree with the idea of selling unless a proven PL striker or someone who is truly a class act is brought in. Soldado has looked pretty good but been isolated a lot. When Defoe came on against the scum, he fought for everything and created our best chance from his shot.

It is ok buying potential but if it is never realised then what? Defoe is 30 and can easily go for another 2 seasons at this level imo. His experience will be valuable and who knows which Ade is going to turn up this season?

We still need a 3rd striker if Defoe goes. Can't be dealing with just 2 strikers again.

Probably be Harry Kane wouldn't it? Not been linked with a loan out of the club so presumably AVB is looking to give him a go, perhaps in EL / Cup games?
