We love the players that deliver and we groan about the players that don't and for there to have been so much debate on these boards about this one player HAS to tell us something.

It does tell us something yes, that a lot of football fans don't really understand what's going on or don't WANT to see what is going on.

C'mon - you get the jist. How many times have Gerrard, Giggs, Lampard, Fabregas, Scholes, Cole etc put in a terrific performance for the so called top 4 when the team has been struggling a bit. Lots is the answer.

You can say the same about Defoe, who rarely ever delivers when we are struggling and in a mess.

How about 2 MOTM performances in the CC semi's against Arsenal? How about an excellent performance alongside Zokora which dominated a full strength Chelsea midfield in the final? How about the last minute equaliser at home to Arsenal? How about THAT free kick away at Old Trafford? How about that goal in the comeback at the emirates? How about the goal away at Chelsea in 05/06 which should have won us a point?

You can wish away all the good thing's we have done with Jenas in the team if you want to but being a major part of 2 5th place finishes and a trophy whilst not being replaced by any of the managerial incumbents confirms to me what I see on the pitch, that we have a very good midfielder, not world class of course but one we should be happy to have and that the only time we are likely to replace him is when we qualify for the Champions League.

i actually agree that jenas is good against top 4 teams, but there are only 4 of those, there are also 15 other teams who he is consistent against.

consistently shit.

Sadly deluded synopsis. Every player can compile a DVD of their greatest moments. Its the bits that remain on the cutting room floor that pisses every one else off. But then what do i know cos i dont understand what is going on like your do nor do i WANT to see what is going on like you do, cos you know more than me obviously :duh:

I think nearly everyone who follows spurs will agree with you that Jenas hasn't fulfilled what may believe is his potential. Other than that, I really cannot agree with anything you say.

Jenas is consistently very effective when we are not possession (i.e. defensively) and on occasion he is pretty good going forward. We do need another CM, but by getting rid of Jenas in January, it would not just mean needing to buy 2 CMs, but also changing the heart of a team that is currently in 3rd place and doing pretty well. It just does not make sense.

As for Barry, Arteta, Ireland and Parker, I don't think we can realistically expect to get any of these in January, except perhaps for Parker, who is the least good of the four. Just out of interest do you follow all these teams closely? Do you watch each performance? The first three are certainly very good players (Parker is probably past it), but they too have their faults, and I am sure if they ever came to WHL (which I doubt they will) they would have plenty of critics.

January is not the time to sell Jenas. Securing a good 4th CM in January will be hard enough.

thats fine, there are a lot of spurs fans who still think he is some sort of player. i dont.

I wasnt saying we should sign any of the players i listed anyway - total misinterpretation of my post.

jj has played a key part in our team since he joined some four years ago

those four years have been our best spell in the prem

it's also worth noting that the toon fans who laughed long and loud when we bought JJ aren't laughing now, as their mid has been crying out for a player of jj's calibre for years now - and a key reason for their relegation was indeed their substandard mid

so - ho ho ho and stick it up your goldfish bowl to all those mags who wanted jj out :)

That was in response to someone saying he never drags us out of a mess against the big teams - which he has done.

He does plenty of other bits that 'remain on the cutting room floor' - more than anyone in our team I would suggest, but thats my opinion - which appears to be shared with a plethora of managers.

And apologies if that comment annoyed you, it was a bit petty, but in my lifetime supporting Spurs he has been a major part of the most successful years I have been watching them, has seen every other midfielder around him been shipped out, more bought in then shipped out once more and he has remained and always been in every managers first choice team. In these years we finished 5th twice and won the League Cup (in which he was influential) so I can't possibly fathom how people can't acknowledge how his presence has not contributed to this? If we can find a better player in his position (like we did replacing Zokora with Palacios) absolutely great - but where we are now is as much to do with JJ as most of players in that time.

On his day and if he really plays to his potential, Jenas can be our Frank Lampard ( please do not sohot me down). He lacks the confidence .. but this lad has very strong potential .. the killer word. He can be a late shock for the plane to South Africa, but I do wish he shows a consistent performance. I do not want him or Tom to leave ..

Everyone keeps saying JJ's just not playing to his potential but the question is what is his potential.
On the flip side the question also should be, who are we going to find to replace him (if thats what we want) should we be willing to take that chance on another player that might not settle in time to keep us in the top 4?

Thats why Harry gets paid big bucks, so lets just leave it to him

To stick my neck on the line i would also say mendes. And look at the performances even murphy is putting in for fulham - well certainly last year.
Good shout! He left us prematurely, didnt want him to go.
