I am not even bothered about Gvardiol. What Chelsea and United are doing is madness. Do you really think Gvardiol is so much better than Lenglet?

Man City and Liverpool prove that there are sensible deals out there available, just not always.

I’d never replace our situation with Celseas or United.

The entire setup at Spurs is great (Conte, Paratici, Levy, coachess,..) so lets trust them and enjoy this process.

Future is bright, lillywhite!

I get that, but I’m 40 in November and I’m worried I’ll die before we win anything.

Love a good old meltdown. People losing their shit over some 19 year old defender like he's going to win the title for them by himself.

Who cares if they sign him. Football isn't just about individuals. It's a team sport. I trust Conte to build something with the players he wants and likes. He's someone who doesn't need flashy players, but players who can follow his system and have certain attributes.

Yes, missing out on him is a blow, but it's not the end of the world, Chelsea will do Chelsea and so will all the other money clubs. Its just how things are.

We however have an elite manager who wants to build something in his image and I can trust him to close the gap. Money talks, but money doesn't always buy success.

We have spent well and bought what we needed for the time being. Our team was in heaps before Conte. Within one year we look a completely different side who's much more competitive. That's only after 2 windows. Conte said we need a few windows.

How about we be patient and not expect everything to happen in one window, because it never was going to happen in one window.

But if I'm 39 this year and I have seen us win something, then have I hallucinated the whole thing? I drink a lot of coffee these days so that's really not impossible.

Can't quite understand how is chelscum still able to spend such amount post Roman. Irritating.
It's very fishy if you ask me I wouldn't be surprised if Roman Abramovic indirectly is still washing money with his pals via the back door.

I don't get why there'd be an explosion of anger over this - I thought the general consensus was he wouldn't move this summer unless an absurd fee was paid (which has happened) and given that it looked like City, Utd, Chelsea etc were involved we would likely be massively outbid in terms of both transfer and wages (which has also happened).

This is sudden but not outrageous or unexpected.

I think it’s just a sad reminder of how jaded football has become. Especially in England if you dont spend ridiculous money you just can’t compete.

Anyone not upset by this clearly has never watched him play. Bloke looks absolutely fucking mint, with outrageous stats to back it up. He is/was our number one CB target for very good reason.

I knew we were not going to be able to compete for his signature, but I'm still pissed off about this.

If it makes you feel better Chelsea just lost to Southampton and have a negative goal difference.

What's the big deal? Ok so he is a talented player but Chelsea aren't brilliant even with him. They just got beat by Southampton.

Midfield when Kante is out is a big problem as is the attack. But who's to say they won't just spend a ton to fix that next Summer.

Oh well, not like this is a new issue.

* Chelsea find an additional £300m down the sofa to bring forward the Gvardiol signing to tonight *

* Folk comment about how clever and ambitious they are *

If he doesn't go to Chelsea for 90m, he will end up at city for 45m next window. I guess it will be up to the player.

Well exactly this is what they do. Why are people freaking out tonight? We have had a great window.

Did you already forget that we moved on Lenglet after Bastoni was deemed “impossible?”

Also I think it’s pretty well know that Poch was pretty stubborn with the players he wanted, so after neither of those players came, who knows who we might had had a chance to sign instead of them.

Thats my point. Whats the point in only ever going for no.1 targets when majority of the time they either stay put or go to bigger clubs. We are short in defence CM and WF. The fact that it's likely we are going to keep Tanganga Sarr and Gil clearly shows that. Romero is injury prone. We are one injury away from disaster at the back. Skipp injury prone so only 3 CM we can really trust. We are playing every midweek until world cup now. It's clear we need more. We have issues with being able to really rest and rotate forward line currently. Anyways this isn't for this thread.

But we are going to leave ourselves short again if injuries and suspensions pick up, which invariably they will. Yes we have made some good signings but we didn't invest enough across the whole squad. This is because we do not have the capital behind us. This pisses me off because this keeps bloody happening.

Here’s a thought. Why would Gvardiol agree to join Chelsea now? If he has another good season he will have the pick of the clubs and can land a nice juicy signing on bonus given lower release clause. I’m not saying we have a chance but in that scenario you never know. You’d imagine Man City win that race though. I think the EUR90m offer would be on the condition he joins this season and has been mis-reported?
