The same could've been said for Crouch though, but Harry had no problem dropping him for Pav when he was on form. The only player who seemed to be undroppable was Defoe, but then he was our top scorer and I think Harry wanted him to get games to get back to fitness. If we had an on form replacement for Defoe i'm sure he would've been dropped. Harry said himself that his form wasn't good enough.

I don't think Harry has favourites. He just picks the best possible players. If they're not on form he has a bit of patience with them, and then drops them if they don't pick it up. I can't imagine Cole would get any special treatment. If his form is not up to it, i'm sure he'll get dropped like anyone else. He is a quality player though, and i'm sure Harry will give him a chance to prove himself.

As for the money, I don't know the circumstances so can't comment. There's every chance he is just after the best deal possible. Most players would be the same in his situation. He has done us a favour by running down his contract. A little bonus wouldn't go a miss, as long as it isn't overboard or anything.

'Arry has his favourites in so much as he favours players who work hard, in training and on the pitch, and who listen to what he has to say.
Also, players who have a love of the game and show a desire to play.
He's an old fashioned type of guy (in a good way).
No successful manager picks a team because he just likes the players.
It helps that to have one but there's a little more to it than just a personal relationship. (although maybe Capello and Ramos should take note!).

And in this sense all (most?) managers have their 'favourites' and so they should!

i definitely have my reservations about Cole - will he be a 'favourite' - will he disrupt the squad with his high wages -

i also worry is this going on too long when we should be focusing on other players

the arshavin saga seemed to wrongfoot the club - i hope this one won't as well

So many other options out there who could do aswell if not better than Cole and for half the price too (VDV, Turan, give GDS a chance, etc) . We got to back Harry after last seasons exploits but like DC Boy I have my concerns regarding Cole. I will say it again, we have a fantastic squad that does not really need changing at all. It's the best squad we have had in my living memory. The ONLY position that needs tweaking is our forward line. Creativity is not something we lack as we can all see from the chances we create, it's finishing them off. If we can upgrade Keane and Pav/Crouch for 1 or 2 TOP CLASS finishers then I'm all for it, if not then we should just keep what we have. With Sandro added to our squad and a rejuvenated GDS + Keane I'mmore than happy with what we have....

I can't see what the fuss is with Cole and his wage demands, it's obvious he's going to push for as high a wage as possible, and i really wouldn't believe much of what is splashed around in the tabloids. They have no clue what's really going on.

628 Posts has this beaten Duff or Parker yet? I seem to recall these ex Chelsea crocks were good bullets missed.
Chelsea have an uncanny record for letting players go at the right time.

Duff maybe, although his injuries played a large part in that. But Parker is a good player and would probably still be a decent addition to our squad.

And then there are players like Makelele and Johnson who have gone on to perform after leaving Chelsea.

I'm sorely tempted to take the 2/1 Paddy Power are offering on him joining us.

He spoke to Joe about 10 days before the world cup, and on the phone over the weekend. He has done all he can, so i expect its just Levy and the agents.

One thing that is worrying me, is Joe's family affections for the Scum. I know that Joes uncle passed away recently and he was a staunch gooner like most of the Coles. I'm suspicious that maybe he is drawned towards the scum for his uncle. Apparently they were close. can anyone shed any light on this?

This article seems to suggest that the Cole family are actually Spurs fans, as was his dead uncle - not sure how true it is but the picture of his cousin wearing a spurs shirt and rocking a thumbs up is good enough for me...! Hopefully its accurate, the picture of Justin cole celebrating infront of the spurs players confirms that at least he is Spurs anyway.

THE Spurs fan who gatecrashed his team's photo was revealed yesterday as the COUSIN of Chelsea's Joe Cole.

Life-long Tottenham supporter Justin Cole jumped into the shot as the players celebrated their 2-1 Carling Cup victory.

Rival relative ... cousin Justin gets in on winning Spurs photo

To get there he pelted past superstar relative Joe, whose extra-time efforts were not enough to save the Blues.
As Justin owned up to the prank which appeared in The Sun, he said: "Sorry Joe, but when it comes to cup finals it's team first - then family."

Justin, 38, explained his Wembley security breach was an "emotional tribute" to his father Billy - Joe's uncle - who died in 2006. He said: "My dad lived and breathed Spurs, like all the Cole family.
"Joe understands that too. I've watched him since he was a nipper but we're Spurs through and through.

"When the whistle went I thought, 'This one's for you Dad' and leapt up to run on to the pitch."

This would seem to align with what I have heard from the son of a colleague of Joe Cole's dad, which is that the family, including Joe Cole's dad, are Spurs fans, all hoping that he signs for us. I know it's all abit uncles aunties budgie told me, but that's the bar room rumour.

Certain Internet betting firms have suspended betting on the tranfer of Joe Cole
apparently.

Make of that what you will.

I think that was what happened another time, three days ago, when the market disappeared from oddschecker because everybody thought Pool had him. Also apparently on the 23rd June betting was suspended because everybody thought Arsenal had him. Pretty sure it's us this time because we were closing, and had become favourites at Hills at least.

I think Cole is starting to realise that he isn't going to get the bumper contract he was hoping for (though I always though if you are that reach what is another 20k??)
Reckon Harry may have sweet talked him into making to move to us.
We can sit in hope.....

He should have made his mind up by now. His agent is obviously the one who his delaying the outcome in my opinion.

If he's sensible, he'll realise that last year was, perhaps, the last chance players had to negotiate bumper contracts as the spotlight is now well and truly on debt and amounts going into wage packets now so it makes sense to come to us as a stable club, showing our intentions on the pitch and off.

The only clubs that are likely to still chuck cash at players in six figures are Citeh, Chelsea and, maybe, United - The Woolwich have always had a strict wage structure (and apparently Wenger doesn't want him, despite the fact he needs to sign some home grown talent else he'll be in trouble come the rule change), Liverpool are in no position to be splashing that much cash on wages when they need to spend it on buying players too, and i'm not even sure United are in any state to be spending big unless they offload a few of their top earners.

We are a very attractive club right now and for this we have only Mr Levy and his henchmen to thank
