You just know some media company is going to offer him a job as a pundit, or give him a column in a tabloid.

If his 1260 odd football bets were like mine the FA & the betting companies would have swept it under the carpet & had a divvy up between them #freethescouse1

Should be a one day ban for every bet placed, so 18 months is pretty lenient...

Just over 1,200 were placed on football and subject to the charges against me. The average bet was just over £150, many were for only a few pounds.

That's £180,000 you c**t, just pissed away like it didn't matter. Would take the average person 6-8 years to earn that much.

And now he's been banned from any footballing activity, presumably that means he can resume his betting habit.;)

I thought that he made some very fair points about football's dependence on betting.

I think the issue here is different, he was betting on his own team to lose matches, and though he pointed out that he didn't play in those matches, you'd have to be an idiot not to see the problem with that. Just because he's not playing in them doesn't mean he couldn't influence them - as he could potentially be directly influencing others in his dressing room/squad etc.

He's not stupid, he knows the implications of betting on your own team to loose matches and the implications of that, it's no wonder they gave him a severe playing ban.

so would you say the amounts(i'm assuming you've seen them) he was betting are irrelevant? i can't really buy into the idea that he could've been negatively influencing his teammates so his £10 bet would come in, i just find it all a bit silly and the punishment doesn't fit the severity of the crime.

Punishment doesn't fit on face value but this is Barton who claims he learns from each thing when in reality he replaces each dumb life choice or stupid incident with something equally as moronic. When you are hauled in front of a panel seemingly once a season for something stupid then you clearly aren't learning anything. He will be no loss to football and has spent the last few years pretending to be more intelligent than he actually is. He's not some flawed antihero he's a tit

I'm not much of a gambler so maybe I don't understand it but what is the point of betting so much when you're already loaded? If you don't have much money then a bet coming in could help you pay the bills but if you're have millions in the bank then it's all risk for very little reward.

Just like Barton, our species seems doomed untill we can learn to be happier with what we have and stop repeating the same mistakes over and over. That's not to say people shouldn't be ambitious and make loads of money, there just seem to be so many greedy fuckers out there who have lost touch with reality.

We could talk about this.
