It's not really about whether youre upset, but Pochettino.

Given he spent much of last season saying how our squad wasn't good enough for the demands of European and Premier league football, he's clearly expecting significant improvements this summer.

I guess as a kid foyth isn't directly one of those, but given we're not signing anyone to be involved in Poch's all important pre-season, it seems to me this latest transfer failure is another example of levy pushing our fantastic manager into a position where he must question if there's any point in him even identifying players he wants, given how unlikely it is he's going to get them.

Maybe Poch's totally down with it. I don't know.

People still worried that Poch is going to quit because Carlos Kickaball is being signed by moneybags PSG ...

The unmitigated horror of this is too much to bare, whatever will we do now?!

Guys, remember a few years ago we missed out on a young centre-back called 'Tin' (I remember him because of the amusing name), who went to Roma.

We were pissed at the time but what happened to him? He played two games at Roma and was then loaned out to Leverkusen to get some football. Roma then decided to get rid after 1 year.

Point is, these players have loads of developing to do before they even get near our first team.

If we can't get them for a sensible price to mediate the risk of them not becoming particularly good (or 'Tinpot', if you will!) then it's not the end of the world.

Tin Jedvaj.

Actually the Tin Man is still only 21 and has played 9 times for Croatia's full international team, but his progress has been held back by injuries.

It's highly unlikely that he was the only young player on the Poch list so I'm not going to get too worried about missing out on him.

I don't get the people who are saying "just pay the asking price". If we don't think he's worth the money they are asking we should walk away and find an alternative. There's plenty of good young players out there. I've got to admit that I thought that he seemed quite expensive, especially when you think that Watford signed Chalobah from Chelsea for less than we were expected to pay for this guy. The rumoured transfer fee is €10M which means that we'd be be paying a couple of million less than we paid for Alderweireld. And then there's the 20% sell on fee. I know transfer fees are going a bit mad at the moment, but this doesn't really seem like a smart transfer at those prices.

If he'd played 50 or 60 games in Argentina with good reports, I'd be a bit worried about missing out. But with so few senior appearances and a lot of development to come, it does seem like an awful lot of money to be paying for someone who won't be a regular contributor to the first team for a while. If it looks like the deal will be cost effective and he wants to come, great, but if we get outbid by a richer club or he chooses elsewhere, it doesn't really feel like a disaster for next season.

If you go by what Pochettino himself has said we need to do to be effective in the transfer market this summer, it's unlikely he's down with it, given we're doing the exact opposite.
Do you think Poch would place this transfer in the effective column? I'd have thought not myself.

Just heard an interview with David Pleat on SiriusXM and he categorically said that we were interested in JF but this interest has now faded and we will not be signing him

Again you miss the point. If he's so unimportant then why did we try for him in the first place?

It's not about the fact we lost out on Foyth, it's that we have again failed to bring in one of Poch's transfer targets. Some people seem to think the man will stay no matter what. Pissing him off is a dangerous thing to be doing.
Totally agree if it was one of his targets I really fear what's going to happen in regards to what Poch must think.

And the ironic thing is, these are the same people who will moaning that 'we wasted money' on him if he came and didn't make an impact on the first team this season...

No one's ever seen this guy play besides @Ossie85, but everyone's freaking out about losing him?

He's going to cost double what we paid for Dele after he scored 16 goals in League One, and hasn't played more than 10 games for the senior team. No sense crying over a kid who might not have ever played for the first team. Have a word with yourselves, seriously.

No, I didn't see him play either

As I said before, it's too much what they want. And the 20% sell on clause was never gonna happen. People here can't believe he's leaving for that much money. He doesn't even have 10 games for the first team.
Too bad we missed out on him, but I totally understand our reluctance to pay more.
Contrary to what some said PSG didn't bid the same as we did. They are reporting Estudiantes will get 10.5m net. That must be like 13m or more (dollars)

Hmm, can't find him saying we need to be more effective. The Mail said he said we need to be more decisive - but there are no quotes: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...tino-wants-Tottenham-act-transfer-market.html

It also says Perreira is top of our list, which has subsequently been rubbished by other sources, so I wouldn't put too much money on the views in that story.

Our own boy Ally Gold reckons Poch is more than happy to wait: http://www.football.london/tottenha...cio-pochettino-spurs-transfer-window-13338584

In fact, I can't find a single quote from Poch on our transfers since the end of last season. So I wouldn't presume to know what he's thinking.

I can't see that us not signing this guy is going to make or break his summer tho

How we work is just mind blowing to me. When we look at transfers do we place valuation ranges, and does Poch sign off on that?

Did Poch say he wanted Foyth, but only if we could get him under £8m? Or does he just sanction a list and knows that we will only get players that meet our internal valuation?

The way Pleat was explaining the situation, he did not state that it was down to money but other factors like player ownership

Is Ally Gold any good? He puts way too many stories out to be taken seriously. He is just a fan who is trying to become a journalist and live his dream. But his tone always comes across in this manner and it all seems a bit desperate.
