I cant believe that our supporters still think we're capable of signing players like draxler! The days of Klinnsman signing are gone. Until we are financially sound ie sugar daddy or new stadium we are not going to get the top players.
We need to accept that we need to take a chance on those with potential and hope they blossom!

Must have missed lloris, vertonghen, eriksen and Lamela. Oops.

All different situations especially considering the selling team. Schalke are a big step ahead of Ajax, Roma (although they're now making great strides forward), and Lyon.

Mate this is a kid whose done nothing in the game. Klinsman he ain't. A definite talent but I can't believe you think he's unattainable. This ain't Messi Bro.

Im not saying he is a messi. But the truth is that if us, arsenal, chelsea, man utd, atletico, etc come in for him, we're going to be last on the list! Probably behind liverfool now too.
We're not gonna sign players from clubs that are our equal! Unless reserve or third choice

Yeah, but we're going on the premise that these clubs dont go in for him. Otherwise there would be no point having a transfer thread on ANY player TBH.

None of the top teams we're looking for a keeper when we got Lloris, plus Marseille we're in financial difficulty and needed to sell. Vertonghen granted was a decent buy but from Ajax which is a club that I would rate below us. Likewise for Eriksen, plus no one dared take a chance on him, lots of clubs thinking about it but wouldnt take the gamble. Lamela was bought due to Baldini's links to Roma, do you honestly think we would have bought him if Baldini didn't come in? Plus we paid well over the odds for him imo.
Who was the last player that we bought from a club who are our equal or better?
Before you say Ajax are our equal, think about what league they play in and how much they pay their players! All good players leave Holland!

I make you wrong. More money, new experience, playing time, as a stepping stone to a bigger club etc. There are many reasons why Draxler might choose us over other clubs.

You're missing my point! I do believe that Draxler would sign for us, but only if no one else was interested in him and we were his only choice!

If no one else was to bid then yes I do think he would possibly come to us. But how many times do you see a player of his potential become available and no one go in for him?

Yes.... Roma didn't just suddenly decide to allow their star player to leave just because we have someone who used to work for them.

Well that's nearly the same as saying you don't believe he would sign for us.
I make you wrong and i feel for you if you think we haven't got the pull to sign a talented kid, unless no other team was involved.

Not much, but it happens.

This may be a silly point to make, but I wouldn't be comfortable with any player coming to us who sees us as nothing more than a 'stepping stone'. That would just tell me he's not committed to us 100% and anything less than that is unacceptable (to me).

On the other hand, ambitious players want to play for the biggest clubs. Those with ambition are those who generally become the best players, constantly striving to improve. They will give all they can to prove their ability and worth, driving our club forwards in the process.

For where we are as a club, there is no shame in only losing our top players to the 2 or 3 biggest clubs on the planet, as has been the case in recent times. In my opinion, it shows we're doing something right.

Lloris came from Lyon. What makes you think we overpaid for Lamela?

I believe that they turned down a 30 million offer last season because he has a 38-40 million buy out clause which was never met.

I cant remember as to whether the buy out clause only applied to his fellow German clubs.

why? The player won't explicitely say it, or even think it when he signs but over time he might out grow the club if our ambition doesn't match his own. Conversely he might be thinking it when he signs but decides to stay because we start winning things or he enjoys the life at the club. life waits for no man, what's true today might not be true tomorrow. Stepping stone really means fuck all when you're a club of our size, just part of the illusion.

Do you really think no one was in for Eriksen at 12 mil?
It's not always the most prestigious club or the club with the biggest cheque book who wins.

We're talking about the player, not the team.
